FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the New England Revolution Under-18 and Under-16 both earned victories over North Meck SC in their third and final games of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase, held at the Premier Sports Complex in Sarasota, Fla. The U18s posted a 3-0 win, while the U16s earned a 3-2 win. The teams posted a combined 3-3-0 record in the multiple-day tournament.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s toppled North Meck, 3-0, in their last game of the Winter Showcase on Tuesday. New England maintained much of the possession from the beginning, seeing time on the ball and stringing together passes. Chances came early for the Revs, and Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass.) scored first in the 27th minute, finishing a C.J. Burnham (Rockport, Mass.) cross. Ramiro Osorio (Hooksett, N.H.) then drew a penalty in the 37th minute, and calmly slotted home his spot kick to double New England’s lead. North Meck came out stronger in the second half, and substitute goalkeeper Matt Mozynski (Bellingham, Mass.) made a big save in the 71st minute to preserve the team shutout. After North Meck’s Trent Carriker was ejected in the 88th minute, Dominik Machado (Attleborough, Mass.) – assisted by Forest Sisk (Sudbury, Mass.) – scored the Revs’ third goal against the 10-man side to close out the match.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s earned a 3-2 come-from-behind victory against North Meck. The Revs opened scoring early, when Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) won a ball in the midfield and took a few touches before placing it in the upper right corner. North Meck’s Zhuvonte Wilson equalized in the 17th minute, before scoring the go-ahead goal in the 33rd. On the other side of the break, Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) leveled the score for the Revs, emerging from a melee in the box to find the back of the net. Both teams battled for the deciding goal throughout the remainder of the second half. Revolution goalkeeper Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) made a diving save in the 75th minute, denying North Meck the go-ahead. In the 77th minute, Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) half-volleyed the ball to Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.), who slotted it home with aplomb to give the Revs their first win of the Winter Showcase.
With the wins, the Under-18 team now holds a 4-1-0 record (12 pts.) on the season, while the Under-16 team is now 3-2-0 (9 pts.).
Outside of regular training, both the U18s and U16s will have a break from competition until early March, when the youth teams will resume their fourth season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Kicking off a series of road matches, the Revolution youth teams will next play D.C. United at Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Md., on Saturday, March 10.
