FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution Academy’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams were in action last weekend, going a combing 0-1-3 on the road. The U18s earned a pair of draws – 1-1 against Seacoast United on Saturday, June 8, and 2-2 against FC Westchester on Sunday, June 9 – while the U16s played Seacoast to a scoreless draw on Saturday, before suffering a 1-0 loss to FC Westchester on Sunday.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s played Seacoast United to a 1-1 draw on Saturday, battling back to equalize late in the game. Erik Martel scored an early goal for Seacoast in the eighth minute, giving the home side the lead for much of the match. New England answered in the final minutes, however, when Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) finished a pass from Quenton Swift (Enfield, Conn.) in the 82nd minute to level the score.
On Sunday, the U18s played FC Westchester to a 2-2 draw. Westchester’s Alexis Archilla scored first in the 10th minute. Freddie Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) then equalized in the 26th minute, beating a defender before curling a left-footed shot around the goalkeeper. In the 34th minute, Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) combined with Ferre before burying his shot from the edge of the box. The Revs maintained their advantage until the 88th minute, when Devin Pierre equalized for FC Westchester to make it 2-2 at the final whistle.
Closing out the season with a 15-5-5 (50 pts.) record, the U18s are ranked third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.00 points per game and have officially qualified for their third playoffs in four seasons (2010, 2012, 2013).
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s played Seacoast United to a scoreless draw on Saturday. New England registered 18 shots – and had a penalty kick saved – but was ultimately unable to find the back of the net. U14s Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.), Nick Ranieri (Natick, Mass.) and Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) made the roster, but did not see any action.
On Sunday, the U16s suffered a 1-0 loss to FC Westchester. Westchester’s Simeon Okoro scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 16th minute to make it 1-0. Facing a scoring plight for a second consecutive day, the Revs registered 19 shots, but never capitalized.
The U16s finished the season with an 11-7-7 (40 pts.) record and are ranked fifth in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.60 points per game, their postseason fate still hanging in the balance.
Having closed out the 2012-13 U.S. Soccer Development Academy regular season, the Under-18 and Under-16 teams will next travel to Frisco, Texas. While the U18s have officially qualified for the Development Academy playoffs, the U16s are currently sitting on the final playoff wild card spot for the Under 15/16 age bracket, but their place in the postseason depends on the outcome of next weekend’s match between BW Gottschee and Revolution Empire. A BW Gottschee win or a draw would propel the Revs’ U16s to the playoffs, while a Revolution Empire win would eliminate the Revs and send them to the Showcase instead.
