Youth Teams South Africa

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution youth teams played their final home games of the season last weekend, taking on Oakwood SC on Saturday, June 9, and South Central Premier on Sunday, June 10. Combined, the Revs' youth teams went 3-0-1, picking up points in all four games as they head into the final week of regular-season play this upcoming weekend.

UNDER-18s

On Saturday, the Under-18s earned a 1-0 win against Oakwood SC. After a tightly contested first half, the teams entered the break scoreless. Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) then broke the deadlock in the 75th minute. The third-year Rev combined with Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) before dribbling around two defenders and slipping the ball past the Oakwood goalkeeper to give the Revs the advantage. The score held through to the final whistle, as goalkeeper Matt Mozysnki (Bellingham, Mass.) made five saves to preserve the shutout.

The U18s then topped South Central Premier, 6-0, on Sunday as Ramiro Osorio (Hooksett, N.H.) scored one goal and added two assists. Within the first 17 minutes of play, New England was up by three goals. Osorio, Colin Patch (Providence, R.I.) and Manny Andrade (Boston, Mass.) scored in the fifth, eighth and 17th minutes, respectively, while Willis Griffith (Amherst, N.H.), Osorio and Jack Hilger (Hopkinton, Mass.) picked up assists. Ngatcha then scored a pair of goals in the 32nd and 34th minutes, assisted by Andrade and Osorio. Hilger made it 6-0 in the 36th minute, calmly slotting the ball home after a great run by Andrade. The second half proved to be much quieter, and Mozynski made three saves for his fifth shutout of the season and second in as many days.

UNDER-16s

On Saturday, the Under-16s played Oakwood SC to a 2-2 draw. Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) opened the Revs’ account in the 19th minute, receiving a pass from Christian Sady(North Andover, Mass.) and lofting a shot over the Oakwood goalkeeper. The visitors then equalized in the 28th minute with a goal from Ryan Taylor. Tim Mine scored on the other side of the break to give Oakwood the lead. Nine minutes later, Gissie tallied again, receiving the ball in the midfield from Erik Martel (Bedford, N.H.) before firing a shot into the goal. New England continued to create chances throughout the second half, but was ultimately unable to find the go-ahead goal.

The U16s earned a 4-0 win against South Central Premier on Sunday. The Revs took the lead in the 26th minute when Gissie finished a cross from Sady. Casey Schehl (Bedford, N.H.) then doubled the advantage in the 40th minute, timing his run to meet Gissie’s cross at the far post. In the second half, Freddie Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) combined withAmadu Kunateh (Salem, Mass.) to score a third goal in the 51st minute. Matt Nyeayea (Worcester, Mass.) extended the lead further in the 78th minute, combing with Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) to score from inside the six-yard box. Goalkeeper Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) made two saves to earn his second shutout of the season.

With the pair of wins, the Under-18 team has an 11-9-4 (37 pts.) overall record and with its 5-2-1 (16 pts.) division record is now in second place in the Northeast Division in U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference. With a win and a draw, the Under-16 team is now 15-6-3 (48 pts.) overall and its 5-1-2 (17 pts.) divisional mark has the team in third place in the division.

The youth teams are on the road this weekend, playing their final regular season matches in the last push for the playoffs. The Revs will travel to Epping, N.H., to take on Seacoast United on Saturday, June 16, before meeting Empire United in Syracuse, N.Y., on Sunday, June 17.
