FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the Revolution Academy’s youth teams were home last weekend, going a combined 4-0-0 and posting three shutouts. On Saturday, May 11, the Under-14s earned a 1-0 victory against Connecticut’s South Central Premier, before the Under-18s and Under-16s topped SCP, 3-0 and 8-2, respectively, at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass. The U14s were back at it on Sunday, shutting out Seacoast United, 3-0, at Gillette Stadium.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s shut out South Central Premier, 3-0, on Saturday. After a scoreless first half, Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.) broke the deadlock in the 55th minute with the first of his two goals, finishing Gabe Gissie’s (Worcester, Mass.) cross. Guy Kabala (Manchester, N.H.) doubled the Revs’ advantage in the 72nd minute, beating the goalkeeper with a low shot from inside the six. Gissie was credited with the assist – his second on the day. Alves then netted his second goal in the 87th minute, assisted by Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.). Goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) made three saves en route to the shutout – his fifth of the year, but first while playing up with the U18s. Now 13-4-2 (41 pts.), the U18s are ranked second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.16 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s earned a convincing 8-2 victory against South Central Premier on Saturday. Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) scored a hat trick and added a pair of assists, factoring in five of the Revs’ eight goals. Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) scored two goals and added two assists. Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) and Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) each scored one goal and added one assist. Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) recorded one assist. The Revs’ eight-goal output is the team’s highest single-game count this season, besting the team’s previous high of seven goals scored against FC Westchester on Sunday, March 3. With their 10-3-6 (36 pts.) record, the U16s are currently third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.89 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s earned a 1-0 victory against South Central Premier on Saturday. The teams played a scoreless first half, but on the other side of the break, goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) received a red card in the 60th minute after handling the ball outside of the box. The Revs were forced to replace midfielder John Pittamiglio (Beverly, Mass.) with back-up keeper Thomas Roberts (Wellesley, Mass.) and play a man down for the final 20 minutes of the game. New England continued to press, however, and scored what would prove to be the game-winner soon after. In the 68th minute, Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) scored, assisted by Justin Rennicks (S. Hamilton, Mass.), and the 1-0 lead held through to the final whistle despite playing with only 10 men and a back-up goalkeeper.
On Sunday, the U14s shut out Seacoast United, 3-0, improving their U.S. Club Soccer record to 12-3-1 (37 pts.). Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) combined with Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) in the 24th minute to put the Revs on the score sheet. James then doubled New England’s advantage with a goal in the 35th minute that was assisted by Levy Hernandez (Worcester, Mass.). In the second half, Jack O’Brien (Milton, Mass.) scored a 60th-minute goal, assisted by Adam Kaba (Mattapan, Mass.), to secure a 3-0 victory. The shutout was the U14s’ eighth of the year and extended their shutout streak to three consecutive games. With 2.31 points per game, the Revs currently sit in second place in U.S. Club Soccer’s 20-team Northeast Pre-Academy League.
All three youth teams are in action next weekend, when they will host FC Bolts Celtic at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., on Sunday, May 19.
