FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were in action last weekend, going 1-0-2 on the day against Everton FC Westchester on Sunday, May 25, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The Under-18s topped Westchester, 10-0, before the Under-16s and Under-14s posted 1-1 draws, respectively.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s posted a 10-0 victory over Everton FC Westchester, on the back of a hat trick from Amadu Kanuteh (Lynn, Mass.) and a four-assist performance from Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.). The U18s took the lead after only six minutes, when Gio Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.) tucked in the rebound after Kanuteh’s shot had been saved. The Revs doubled their lead 20 minutes later as Freddie Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) beat his man before squaring the ball forSady to finish. Ferre recorded his second assist a minute later, playing through Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) for a breakaway, and the latter made no mistake. Ferre got himself on the score-sheet in the 34th minute when Sady slipped the ball through for Ferre who rounded the goalkeeper to slot into an empty net. Kanuteh scored his first goal of the game and his team’s fifth a minute before halftime, firing past the Westchester goalkeeper with a first-time effort off of Sady’s cross.
Kanuteh and Sady continued to link up with good effect in the second half, as Sady’s played another through ball for Kanuteh to finish. Alves tallied his second goal of the game in the 54th minute, after a back-heel from Sady set him up for a 20-yard strike. The Revs added an eighth goal three minutes later as captain Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) got on the end of a cross from Ferre to tap the ball into the net. The U18s completed the scoring with two late goals – Kanuteh played in Herivaux to finish on a breakaway before a role reversal saw Herivaux cross for Kanuteh to complete his hat trick in the 90th minute. The Revs had 20 shots and goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) was only called upon to make two saves in the shutout.
The win extended the U18s’ unbeaten run to nine games (8-0-1) in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy where they now hold a 12-5-3 (39 pts.) record. The result leaves the U18s in third place with 1.95 points per game and among the contenders for an automatic playoff berth with two games remaining in the regular season.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s rallied from a goal down to post a 1-1 draw with Everton FC Westchester on Sunday. Everton took the lead after 12 minutes through Daniel Sydor and the score remained that way through halftime. The Revs came out strong in the second half and levelled the score early on through Derek Blanchette (Scituate, R.I.). The ball found its way to Dylan Mott (Andover, Mass.) in midfield, and he picked out Blanchette to finish into the lower left corner. The U16s pushed hard for a winner, recording 11 shots in total. Goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) made one save on the day as the Revs defense limited the Westchester offense in the latter stages.
The result extended the U16s’ unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1) in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy where they remain sixth with an 8-9-4 (28 pts.) record and 1.33 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s were faced with the same predicament as the Under-16s, clawing their way back from a goal down to post a 1-1 tie on Sunday. Westchester’s Andrew Lasso put his team in front in the sixth minute, and the New York side frustrated the Revs until well into the second half. The U14s found a lifeline in the 63rd minute when the referee awarded a penalty kick, and Alex Clarke (Windsor, Conn.) scored from the spot to tie the game. The Revs were presented with another penalty kick opportunity seven minutes later, but the Westchester ‘keeper made the save to preserve the tie for his side. Revs goalkeeper Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) made two saves.
The draw extended the U14s’ unbeaten streak to 17 games (13-0-4) since Oct. 6, 2013, and the team is now 14-2-4 for the season.
All three youth teams are in action next weekend as they welcome BW Gottschee Academy to Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., on Sunday, June 1.
