U16S RANKED AMONG TOPDRAWERSOCCER.COM’S BEST
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – In its more recent 2015 Boys National Top 150, TopDrawerSoccer.com has ranked three Revolution Under-16 players among the Top 50 players nationwide in their age group.
No. 8 Guy Kabala (Manchester, N.H.)
No. 37 Amadu Kunateh (Salem, Mass.)
No. 50 Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.)
Organized by high school graduating class, the players are ranked against peers and awarded a star ranking. Each list is updated quarterly by TopDrawerSoccer.com after consulting scouts, staff and coaches at various levels.
Kabala is in his first year with the Revolution Under-16 team, but is currently in Bradenton, Fla., with the U.S. Soccer’s U17 Residency Program. The Manchester, N.H., native was selected to the program last fall, and has been named to several Under-17 National Team travel rosters since, including: Aegean Cup in Manisa, Turkey (Jan. 17-20), Nike International Friendlies in Sarasota, Fla. (Nov. 30-Dec.4), Val-de-Marne tournament in Paris, France (Oct. 25-29) and Albir Garden Sports Cup in L’Aflas Del Pi, Spain (Oct. 15-20). During the Val-de-Marne tournament, Kabala scored a goal against the Netherlands on Oct. 29. He also participated in two Under-15 Boys National Team training camps in 2011, the first in March and a second in July.
Kunateh is also in his first year with the Revolution Under-16 team, having previous played for North Shore United. A freshman at Lawrence Academy (Groton, Mass.), the Lynn resident participated in the Mass. ODP program from 2009-11. He also attended ID camp and an interregional tournament with the U.S. Boys Under-14 National Team. Kunateh participated in two U.S. Soccer Training Centers – in Sept. 2010 (N.H..) and Nov. 2010 (Conn.).
Herivaux – also a first-year member of the Revolution Under-16 team – is a freshman at Beaver County Day School. In his first high school season, Herivaux became a 2011 Boston Globe All-Scholastic honoree and received 2011 Eastern Independent League MVP and all-star honors. Herivaux last played with the Shalrie Joseph Soccer Club and was named one of the world’s top five U17 players to watch by FourFourTwo magazine in June 2011. The midfielder was also a member of the U.S. U15 Boy’s National Team player pool in 2011.
WEEKEND’S GAME SUMMARIES
The New England Revolution youth teams kicked off divisional play last weekend, hosting Empire United at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 5, before meeting Seacoast United at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., on Sunday, May 6.
Combined, the Revs' youth teams went 1-2-1, with the U16s earning a 3-1 victory over Empire United.
UNDER-18s
On Saturday, the Under-18s suffered a 4-1 loss to Western New York’s Empire United. Adam Lauko opened Empire’s account in the fourth minute, and Tyler Forbes doubled the visitors’ lead in the 16th. A 43rd-minute goal from Ben Ramin then gave Empire a three-goal advantage going into the break. Darren Cooper scored a fourth goal for the New Yorkers in the 71st minute before the Revolution netted a consolation. In the 81st minute, Matt Bitchell (Byfield, Mass.) made a run down the left flank and found Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.), whose shot beat Empire goalkeeper Christian Bono to make the final score 4-1.
The U18s then played Seacoast United to a 2-2 draw on Sunday. After a scoreless first half, Ramiro Osorio (Hooksett, N.H.) scored a penalty-kick goal in the 53rd minute to put the Revs ahead. Seacoast’s Connor Brown then equalized just five minutes later. Osorio also factored into the Revs’ second go-ahead goal, earning the assist on Ngatcha’s 67th-minute tally. However, Sam Milbury leveled the score for Seacoast in the 87th minute, and New England came away with one point on the weekend.
UNDER-16s
On Saturday, the Under-16s earned a 3-1 victory over Empire United. The Revs combined well to get on the score sheet in the fifth minute of play, Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) dribbling up the center channel to find Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) at the back post. Gissie added a second goal in the 34th minute, finishing a cross from Amadu Kunateh (Salem, Mass.). In the second half, Empire’s Matthew Vuylsteke scored in the 61st minute to halve their deficit. The Revs then answered with an insurance goal in the 73rd minute, Gissie’s third on the day. Defender Matt Cooper (Londonderry, N.H.) sent a long ball over the top, which Gissie controlled with composure and slotted home.
The U16s suffered a 1-0 loss to Seacoast United on Sunday. After a scoreless first half, Seacoast drew a penalty in the 60th minute. Jordan Misiri stepped up the claim the kick, converting to give the visitors the lead. New England searched for the equalizer throughout the remaining 20 minutes of play, but the 1-0 scoreline held through to the final whistle.
With the loss and draw, the Under-18s are now 6-7-7 and have slid to sixth place in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference. With the win and loss, the Under-16s are now 9-6-1 and in third place in the Division.
The youth teams are back on the road this weekend, traveling to Bridgeport, Conn., to meet South Central Premier on Saturday, May 12, before taking on Oakwood SC in Portland, Conn., on Sunday, May 13.
