FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Under-18 and Under-16 teams formally kicked off their 2011-12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy schedules at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., this past weekend, when they hosted Met Oval on Saturday, Nov. 19, and the New York Cosmos on Sunday, Nov. 20.

Combined, the Revs' youth teams went undefeated at 4-0-0 and posted three shutouts to open their new campaign.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s earned a 2-0 victory against Met Oval on Saturday. New England maintained possession for much of the first half, but was unable to capitalize on a pair of set piece opportunities. On the other side of the break, the game opened up, with each side creating its share of chances. Dominik Machado (Attleborough, Mass.) gave the Revs a one-goal advantage in the 88^th minute, after receiving a pass from Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) in the midfield. Machado made a run up the middle and fired a low shot past Met Oval goalkeeper Jonathan Rico. Revolution goalkeeper Matt Mozynski (Bellingham, Mass.) came up with a pivotal 90^th-minute save to preserve the lead, before Ngatcha – assisted by Forest Sisk (Sudbury, Mass.) – scored a second goal to close out the match.

On Sunday, the U18s toppled the New York Cosmos, 3-2. An early injury saw the Revs playing with only 10 players for a seven-minute span, during which time Dominik Machado collected a miskick by Cosmos goalkeeper Brandon Hanat to score a fourth-minute unassisted goal and the visitors answered with Kenny Benitez’s eighth-minute equalizer. Once back on the field, sporting a bandaged wrapped around his head, Nick Hoffman (East Brookfield, Mass.) made an immediate impact. The first-year Rev won the ball in the midfield before pushing it up to C.J. Burnham (Rockport, Mass.), who then scored his first Revolution goal in the ninth minute. Both teams continued to generate opportunities, but the Revs held onto a 2-1 lead going into halftime. The Cosmos leveled the score for a second time in the 64^th minute with a goal from Fadil Paljevic. It looked as if the match was headed toward a draw, until Machado’s late-game heroics earned him his second game-winning goal on the weekend. Peguy Ngatcha’s shot on target from the right flank was blocked by Hanat with a diving save in the 88^th minute, but Machado was there to finish the follow-up and give the Revs another three points.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s came away with a 3-0 victory against Met Oval on Saturday, securing the win during a high-scoring first half. The visitors tested 14-year old Revolution goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) early, but a pair of saves kept Met Oval off the scoreboard. Freddie Ferre (Waltham, Mass.) sparked the offense from the right wing in the 10^th minute, combining with Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.), who cut back to the middle before firing a shot into the back of the net. Gissie then earned an assist on Danny Apajee’s (Cranston, R.I.) 25^th-minute goal. In the 27^th minute, Apajee drew a penalty kick after being brought down in the box by Met Oval goalkeeper Nico Pasquariello. The second-year Rev converted in the 28^th for a three-goal lead. Aviza continued to come up big for the Revolution, making a total of eight saves and keeping a clean sheet in his Development Academy debut.

On Sunday, the U16s shut out the New York Cosmos, 2-0. While each team had a goal called off within the first 15 minutes of play, Gabe Gissie and Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) combined to give the Revs the lead in the 24^th minute. Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) served a cross in from the right in the 66^th minute and Casey Schehl (Bedford, N.H.) emerged from the scramble inside the six-yard box for the finish, extending the Revs’ lead to 2-0. Austin Aviza made six saves throughout the game to earn his second consecutive shutout.

With wins across the board, the Under-18 team (2-0-0, 6 pts.) is among a three-way tie for first place in the Northeast Division, while the Under-16 team (2-0-0, 6 pts.) sits alone at the top of their table. The Revolution youth squads will next travel to Sarasota, Fla., for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase, where they will each play three non-conference opponents: Charlotte Soccer Academy (Dec. 3), Chicago Fire (Dec. 4), North Meck SC (Dec. 6).
