FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Saturday, Nov. 24, the New England Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams hosted Oakwood SC at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. With the U18s’ win and the U16s’ draw, the Revs came away with a combined 1-0-1 record on the day.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s earned a 2-1 victory against Oakwood on Saturday, extending their winning streak to five games. New England generated several chances early, but was unable to capitalize. The game remained scoreless until the 42nd minute, when Ramiro Osorio (Hooksett, N.H.) put the Revs ahead, slotting a through ball from Quenton Swift (Enfield, Conn.) into the lower right corner. Swift then doubled the lead in the 49th minute. New England earned a corner kick from the left, the resulting shot was cleared off the line before Swift emerged from the scramble to make it 2-0. Oakwood’s Derek Molkenbuhr scored consolation goal in the 64th minute and the 2-1 score line held through to the final whistle.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s drew Oakwood, 2-2, on Saturday and are now riding a six-game unbeaten streak. Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) scored a pair of goals, the first coming in the opening minute of play to give the Revs an early advantage. The third-year Rev also scored in the 61st minute, and both assists were credited to Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.). Oakwood staged a late-game comeback to claim a point, however, with Brendan Constantine scoring in the 67th and 76th minutes to level the score at 2-2.
The U18s and U16s travel to Sarasota, Fla., this week to compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase. The teams will play three group games each between Friday, Nov. 30, and Tuesday, Dec. 4, against Crew Soccer Academy (Ohio), Chivas USA (Calif.) and PA Classics (Pa.).
The U14s travel to Purchase, N.Y., this weekend for their game against FC Westchester on Saturday, Dec. 1. The match will be their last before the spring schedule begins on Saturday, March 16, against South Central Premier.
