FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Saturday, Oct. 13, all three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were in action for the first time since the addition of the Under-14 team this past summer. The Revs’ Under-18s, Under-16s and Under-14s traveled to Stony Brook, N.Y., to take on their respective teams from Albertson SC. Combined, the Revs' youth teams went 0-3-0 on the day.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s were shut out by Albertson SC, 5-0, during their 2012-13 season opener on Saturday. The New York side drew a penalty kick in the 10th minute, which Santiago Moore buried, giving the hosts a lead that they never relinquished. Jeongho Ahn and Miguel Polley then scored in the 44th and 46th minutes, respectively, to put the Revs in a 3-0 hole before halftime. On the other side of the break, Franky Villegas scored twice, in the 65th and 80th minutes, to make the final score 5-0 Albertson.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s suffered a 2-1 loss to Albertson SC, after finding themselves down a goal in just the third minute of play. Albertson’s Arthur Bosua scored twice – in the third and 18th minutes – to give the home side an early lead. Luke Albertini (North Attleborough, Mass.) was able to pull one back for the Revs in the 62nd minute, assisted by Will Rasid (Wilbraham, Mass.). New England was unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle, however, coming away with a loss in their first game of the season.
UNDER-14s
Albertson SC sunk the Under-14s, 3-1, on Saturday. The New Yorkers scored a pair of goals in the 13th and 40th minutes to take a two-goal lead into the break. New England’s Liam Sloan (Harvard, Mass.) halved the deficit early in the second half, combining with Nick Woodruff (Attleboro, Mass.) in the 44th minute. Albertson scored once more in the 55th minute to make it 3-1, which held through to the final whistle.
The youth teams next take on fellow MLS club the New York Red Bulls at Regis College in Weston, Mass, on Sunday, Oct. 21. The U14s will kick off at 10 a.m., followed by the U18s at 12:30 p.m. and the U16s at 3 p.m.
