FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were on the road last weekend, coming away with a combined 1-2-0 record. The Under-14s shut out World Class FC, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they traveled to Orangeburg, N.Y, and the Under-18s and the Under-16s then met the Montreal Impact in Montreal on Sunday, Oct. 20, suffering 5-0 and 3-0 losses, respectively.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s suffered a 5-0 loss to the Montreal Impact on Sunday. The teams remained scoreless for much of the first half, with the Revolution creating chances through Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) and Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.). Montreal struck in the 42nd minute, however, taking a lead into the break, and then extended it to 2-0 in the 47th minute. New England put together a solid spell of play shortly after, trying to get back into the game. But the Impact scored three more times in the 62nd, 82ndand 90th minutes to shut out the Revs. Now 3-2-1 (10 pts.) on the season, the U18s slipped to fifth place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 1.67 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s were shut out, 2-0, by the Montreal Impact on Sunday. The Impact opened scoring in the 14th minute of play, taking a lead it would not relinquish. New England pushed for the equalizer, with Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) and Eddie Venta-Yepes (Lowell, Mass.) each creating opportunities, but as the Revs pushed for a goal, Montreal doubled its advantage in the 65th minute, bringing the final score to 2-0. With a 2-3-1 (7 pts.) record, the Revs are currently in seventh place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.17 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s topped World Class FC, 3-0, on Saturday. The first of New England’s three first-half goals came in the sixth minute, when Amos Shapiro (Worthington, Mass.) found Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.), who turned and fired his shot into the bottom right corner of the net. Joe Brito (Bolton, Conn.) then scored in the 25th minute, collecting a pass from Shapiro and slotting it past the on-rushing goalkeeper.Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) found the back of the net in the 35th minute, assisted by Laszlo Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.), to close the scoring. Revolution goalkeeper Eddie Walsh (Westwood, Mass.) made four saves – including one from point-blank range in the first half – to preserve the U14s’ second shutout. The Under-14s are now 3-2-0 (9 pts.) on the season.
All three of the Revolution’s youth teams are away again this weekend, meeting Oakwood SC in Portland, Conn., on Saturday, Oct. 26.
