FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were on the road last weekend, posting a combined 0-1-2 record against Oakwood SC in Portland, Conn., on Saturday, Oct. 26. The Under-16s and Under-14s came away with draws – 0-0 and 3-3, respectively – while the Under-18s suffered a 2-0 loss.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s suffered a 2-0 loss to Oakwood SC on Saturday. After a first-half stalemate, Oakwood’s Logan Gdula scored in the 48th minute to give the home side the lead. New England then created a chance when Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) headed Will Rasid’s (Wilbraham, Mass.) cross just wide. As the Revs continued to push for the equalizer, they conceded another Oakwood goal through Matt Vasquenza in the 78th minute. U16s Matt Morana (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Eddie Venta-Yepes (Lowell, Mass.) played up an age group, making their U18 season debuts. Now 3-3-1 (10 pts.) on the season, the U18s remain in fifth place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 1.43 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s played Oakwood SC to a scoreless draw on Saturday in an evenly-matched affair. New England saw a few opportunities in the second half, including a shot by Justin Freitas (North Attleboro, Mass.) that forced Oakwood goalkeeper Jeremy Lawrence Keckler into an impressive save. Oakwood created several opportunities of its own, but Revolution goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) made four saves to preserve the shutout – the U16s’ second of the season. Prince Loney-Bailey (Cambridge, Mass.) and Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) played up an age group, making their season debuts with the U16s. With a 2-3-2 (8 pts.) record, the Revs are currently in seventh place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.14 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s drew Oakwood SC, 3-3, on Saturday. Issac Angking (Providence, R.I.) opened scoring for the Revs in the 19th minute, picking up a stray Oakwood clearance and sending his shot into the lower right corner. Joseph Naylor then scored twice – in the 26th and 40th minutes – to give Oakwood the edge going into halftime. Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) was brought down in the box in the 52nd minute, drawing a penalty kick which Alex Shterenberg (Westwood, Mass.) converted. Schifano followed with a goal of his own in the 65th minute, assisted by Connor Haskell (Medfield, Mass.). In the 77th minute, Oakwood was awarded a late penalty kick, which Benjamin Mines buried to level the game. The Under-14s are now 3-2-1 (10 pts.) on the season.
Only the Under-14 team will be in action this weekend, hosting Match Fit Academy FC at Classical High School in Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Nov. 2. The Under-18 and Under-16 squads are off and will return to action on Sunday Nov. 10, against Seacoast United in Epping, N.H.
