FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams hosted Albertson SC at Classical High School in Providence, R.I., on Sunday, Oct. 6, finishing the day unbeaten with a combined record of 2-0-1. The U18s opened with a 3-3 draw against the New York-based club, before the U16s and U14s topped them, 2-1 and 2-0, respectively.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s drew Albertson SC, 3-3, on Sunday in a back-and-forth affair. Albertson’s Arthur Bosua opened scoring in the 10th minute, giving the visitors the advantage, but Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) equalized for the Revs in the 19th minute, latching onto and finishing a mis-kick by the Albertson goalkeeper. Albertson’s Oscar Berrios put Albertson ahead again in the 50th minute, before Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) responded in the 69th minute, heading home Declan McCabe’s (Weston, Mass.) corner-kick service. Gissie’s second goal of the match – the go-ahead tally – came in the 71st minute, when he received the ball from Adam Norman (Natick, Mass.) on a breakaway, ultimately slotting it through the keeper’s legs to make it 3-2. Eric Ohlendorf’s late, 75th-minute goal tied the game for Albertson once more and the score remained 3-3 at the final whistle. Now 3-1-1 (10 pts.) on the season, the U18s remain in fourth place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 2.00 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s topped Albertson SC, 2-1, on Sunday. New England went up in the 21st minute, when Eddie Venta-Yepes’ (Lowell, Mass.) free kick hit the crossbar and Ben Waithe (Plymouth, Mass.) followed up to tap in the rebound. The Revs then doubled their lead early in the second half as Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) received a pass from Levy Hernandez (Worcester, Mass.) and fired his shot into the upper right corner in the 46th minute. Kyle Perno pulled one back for Albertson in the 65th minute and the visitors pushed for the equalizer, but were unable to come through. Revolution goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) came up big in the final minute of play, making a key save to preserve the victory. With a 2-2-1 (7 pts.) record, the Revs are currently in sixth place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.40 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s shut out Albertson, 2-0, on Sunday. Scoreless for much of the first half, the Revs then took the lead in the 31st minute. Issac Angking (Providence, R.I.) got a head on Joe Brito’s (Bolton, Conn.) cross, redirecting it into the back of the net. Angking then registered an assist in the second half, finding Laszlo Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.), who beat his defender with a low finish at the far post in the 63rd minute. New England’s solid defensive effort, paired with goalkeeper Edward Walsh’s (Westwood, Mass.) three saves, earned the U14s their first shutout of the season. The Under-14s are now 2-2-0 (6 pts.) on the season.
All three of the Revolution’s youth teams are off this weekend, and will return to action on the road on Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20. The U14s will travel to Orangeburg, N.Y., on Saturday, Oct. 19, when they will take on World Class FC. The U18s and the U16s will then meet the Montreal Impact in Montreal on Sunday, Oct. 20.
