FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Coming off another successful year, the New England Revolution Under-18 and Under-16 teams have resumed training ahead of the 2011-12 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, which for Eastern Conference teams, kicks off later this fall after the conclusion of the high school season. The Revs’ teams will begin conference play on Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday, Nov. 20, at Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass.
“It’s the beginning of a new cycle, and supplemental training in the fall certainly helps our group get on the same page,” Revolution Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales said. “Getting everyone together early helps returning players re-acclimate, and also gives new players the opportunity to adjust to the demands of playing at this level.”
The supplemental training sessions focus on dynamic stretching, prehabilitation – a combination of strength and speed training to aid injury prevention – and small-sided, possession-based games. The team’s training dates remain optional throughout the month of October while the players train primarily with their high school teams.
YOUTH NOTES
Fall training schedule/media availability
The teams will resume a regular Tuesday/Thursday training schedule beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1 … sessions are held from 5-7 p.m. in the Dana Farber Field House on the grounds of Gillette Stadium … members of the media wishing to attend a training session should contact the Revolution Communications staff by email at media@revolutionsoccer.net.

U.S. Soccer has announced that the 2011 Development Academy Winter Showcase will be held Dec. 2-6, at Premier Sports Campus in Sarasota, Fla. … the Revs’ U18 and U16 teams will each play three non-conference games during the Showcase … detailed schedule information will be available closer to the event.
Revolution’s youth development program among nation’s best
The New England Revolution youth development program is rated among the top eight programs in the country – and is the top-rated program in New England – according to the U.S. Soccer Federation, receiving a 3.5-star rating in its end-of-year evaluation … of the 78 clubs in the Development Academy, the Revolution is among only seven programs to receive a 3.5 mark – with only one club having scored higher at 4.0.
Two Revs called into U.S. Soccer’s Under-17 Residency Program
Revolution Under-16s Guyllain “Guy” Kabala (Manchester, N.H.) and Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) are among the 32 players called into U.S. Soccer’s Under-17 Residency Program for its fall semester in Bradenton, Fla. … the Revolution is one of only seven Development Academy clubs with multiple representatives on the roster.
RESERVE DIVISION NOTES
Youth players get experience, make impact
Revolution youth players have earned a combined 32 call-ups – including 22 appearances and 13 starts – to the senior squad’s reserve team in the first nine of the club’s 10 scheduled matches … Dominik Machado (Attleboro, Mass.) and Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) have scored a goal apiece … Fagundez has registered four assists, while Machado and Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.) have each earned one assist.
Final reserve game of the season
The Revolution takes on the Columbus Crew in its final reserve match of the season, currently scheduled for 8:30 a.m., on Sunday, Oct. 16, at Gillette Stadium … the teams last met at Crew Stadium on Monday, May 9, when an 88th-minute Columbus goal sent the Revs home with a 1-0 loss … the Crew is currently tied for first place in the East Division with 18 pts., while the Revs rank third with 13 pts.

Fagundez making history as Home Grown
Diego Fagundez, the Revolution’s first-ever Home Grown Player, has now played 144 minutes in four appearances during the 2011 MLS season, scoring two goals, adding one assist and drawing a penalty kick … with his first career goal against Chivas USA on Saturday, Aug. 6, he became the second-youngest goal-scorer in MLS history (16 years, 173 days) … with his first career start on Saturday, Oct. 1 against the Seattle Sounders, Fagundez became the youngest player in club history to start a game (16 yrs., 229 days).
