FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – All three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams suffered losses on the road against the New York Red Bulls last weekend, when they traveled to Whippany, N.J., on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Under-18s fell, 5-1, and the Under-16s were shut out, 3-0, before the U14s suffered a 3-1 loss to the Red Bulls.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s fell, 5-1, to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. The Red Bulls jumped out to an early, 3-0, lead by the 23rd minute, behind a pair of goals from Amando Moreno and one goal from Alex Tejera. But the Revs pulled one back before the break, Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) playing Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) in on the dribble. Gissie, who found himself one-on-one with the New York goalkeeper, had his initial shot saved but he headed in his own rebound for a goal in the 42nd minute. The Red Bulls added two more goals – from Derek Etienne and Arun Basuljevic – in the second half to bring the score to 5-1. New England took nine shots in the match, but was unable to find the back of the net again. Now 3-1-0 (9 pts.) on the season, the U18s slipped to fourth place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 2.25 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s were shut out, 3-0, by the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. Scoreless for much of the first half, the game took a turn when Ryan Mingachos scored for New York in the 37th minute, giving the home side a lead that they would not relinquish. Ethan Lochner doubled the Red Bulls’ advantage in the 55th minute before Gideon Metrikin scored in the 78th, making it 3-0. Revs goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) made 10 saves. With a 1-2-1 (4 pts.) record, the Revs are currently in seventh place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.00 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s suffered a 3-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Sunday. The Red Bulls scored goals in the 22nd and 33rd minutes for a two-goal cushion at the end of the first half. As the Revs pushed for a goal of their own in the second half, they conceded one more in the 68th minute. New England did find a consolation, however, when Matt Uek (Westwood, Mass.) won the ball back in the final third before playing it over the top for Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) to finish for the Revs’ lone goal in the 70th. The Under-14s are now 1-2-0 (3 pts.) on the season.
All three of the Revolution’s youth teams are set to play Albertson SC this weekend, when they will host the New York-based club at Classical High School in Providence, R.I., on Sunday, Oct. 6.
