FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Sunday, March 3, all three of the New England Revolution’s youth teams were in action, earning a combined 2-0-1 record at Gillette Stadium to kick off the spring portion of their 2012-13 schedule.
The Under-14s earned a 2-1 win over Oakwood SC (Portland, Conn.), while the Under-18 and Under-16 squads played FC Westchester (Purchase, N.Y.). The U18s earned a 1-1 draw, while the U16s recorded a 7-0 victory.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s earned a 1-1 draw against FC Westchester on Sunday. After hitting the crossbar in the 23rd minute with his first attempt on goal, Murilo Zanette (Somerville, Mass.) – assisted by Leandro Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.) – scored during first-half stoppage time to close out a lengthy period of Revolution possession. New England maintained the lead through to the dying minutes of the game, until FC Westchester’s Jacob Bedrosian equalized in the 85th as the Revs played down a man. Now 8-2-1, the U18s are third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.27 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s earned a convincing 7-0 victory against FC Westchester on Sunday. Gabe Gissie (Worcester, Mass.) registered a hat trick and supplied two assists on the day. Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.) and Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) each converted penalty kick goals, while Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) and Wes Turner (Newton, Mass.) also scored one goal each. Luke Albertini (North Attleboro, Mass.), Steven Duncan (Barrington, R.I.) and Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) each recorded one assist apiece. Goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) registered one save before being replaced by Bruce Johnson (Brewster, Mass.) in the 50th minute as the duo combined to record the team’s fourth clean sheet of the season. With their 5-2-4 record, the U16s are currently fourth in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 1.73 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s topped Oakwood SC, 2-1, on Sunday, improving their U.S. Club Soccer record to 7-5-2. A quick start saw Justin Rennicks(South Hamilton, Mass.) score in the fifth minute of play, his shot from the top of the box finding the upper right corner. Santiago Cardona(Winthrop, Mass.) was credited with the assist. Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) then doubled the Revs’ advantage in the 20th minute. Rennicks received the ball in the midfield, turning and splaying it wide to James who made a darting run into the box and finished his low shot. Oakwood pulled one back in the 57th minute, however, capitalizing on a direct free kick to make the final score 2-1. With 2.14 points per game, the Revs currently sit in sixth place in U.S. Club Soccer’s 20-team Northeast Pre-Academy League.
The Under-18s and Under-16s travel to Portsmouth, N.H. this weekend to take on Seacoast United on Sunday, March 10 at Portsmouth High School. The U14s are off on Sunday, and will return to action on Saturday, March 16, when all three teams face South Central Premier on the road.
