FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Of the club’s three youth teams, only the New England Revolution’s Under-14 team was in action last weekend, earning a convincing 5-2 victory against Match Fit Academy FC, at Classical High School in Providence, R.I., on Sunday, Nov. 3.
The Revs scored three goals inside the first 15 minutes of play to extend an early lead. The first goal started out of the back when Revolution goalkeeper Sebastian Jaramillo (Dracut, Mass.) played Travis Van Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.), who then sprung Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) into a one-on-one situation with the Match Fit goalkeeper before slotting the ball home in the eighth minute.
Issac Angking (Providence, R.I.) scored the Revs’ second goal in the 13th minute, receiving a diagonal ball from Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.) and unleashing his shot for the 2-0 lead. The third goal followed soon after when Rennicks sent in a cross to Alex Shterenberg (Westwood, Mass.), who converted his first-timer in the 15th minute.
Match Fit pulled one back in the second half, scoring a 45th-minute goal, but New England responded immediately when Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) headed home a cross from Van Brewer in the 46th minute.
The visitors tallied again in the 51st minute, and the score remained 4-2 until the 80th minute when Christian Schifano’s (Sudbury, Mass.) unassisted volley capped the scoring.
The Under-14s are now 4-2-1 (13 pts.) on the season.
All three of the Revolution’s youth teams are away this weekend, meeting Seacoast United in Epping, N.H., on Sunday, Nov. 10.
