CLUB CAREER OUTSIDE OF MLS: Has played for club teams in Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania, Scotland, and Germany before joining MLS…Began professional career as a teenager in 2002 with Swiss club FC Basel, playing primarily in their reserves…Later moved to FC Winterhur of Switzerland’s Challenge League (second division) in July 2004 ahead of the start of the 2004-05 season…Six months later, joined Italian Serie B side Venezia on loan for the second half of the season…Returned to Switzerland following loan, signing with Swiss Super League side FC Thun for the 2005-06 season…Made 26 appearances for the club in the first half of the season, including 10 in the UEFA Champions League…Helped Thun qualify for the Group Stage, where they finished third in a group that featured Ajax, Arsenal, and Sparta Prague…In January 2006, sold to Lithuanian club FBK Kaunas, who loaned the defender to Hearts in the Scottish Premier League…In two and a half seasons with Hearts, played in 34 games before spending the 2008-09 season on loan with FC Nurnberg of the 2.
