FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution defender Chris Tierney has been named to the 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Gameday Roster by All-Star head coach Pablo Mastroeni. Tierney is one of 22 All-Stars that will take on Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, July 29 at 9 p.m. ET at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The 2015 AT&T MLS All-Star Game will be broadcast nationally in English on Fox Sports 1 and in Spanish on UniMás.
This is Tierney’s first MLS All-Star selection and he is the first Revolution player to be named to an All-Star Gameday Roster since Shalrie Joseph in 2011. The complete 2015 MLS All-Star Gameday Roster, which features 10 players from the Fan XI, 10 players selected by Mastroeni and two Commissioner’s Picks can be found here.
Now in his eighth season with New England, the 29-year-old Wellesley, Massachusetts native is the longest-tenured player on the Revolution roster, having originally joined the club in 2008. The club’s first-choice left back, Tierney has made 19 appearances so far this season, starting 17 times and scoring one goal – an MLS Goal of the Week nominee against Real Salt Lake on April 25 – while adding two assists.
Last season, Tierney made 24 appearances including 21 starts during the regular season before starting at left back in all five of the Revs’ contests in the MLS Cup Playoffs. Tierney had two goals and two assists in the postseason, including two assists in the Eastern Conference Championship and the Revs’ only goal in the MLS Cup Final against the LA Galaxy. For his career, Tierney has started 158 of the 174 regular-season games in which he has appeared in, scoring eight goals and adding 28 assists. He currently ranks sixth in club history in games played, games started and minutes played.
