FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā New England Revolution defender Andrew Farrell has been named to the 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Gameday roster by MLS All-Star coach Dominic Kinnear. Farrell is one of 26 All-Stars that will play Premier League club and 2016-17 UEFA Champions League participantArsenal on Wednesday, July 28 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif. The 2016 AT&T MLS All-Star Game will be broadcast nationally in English on ESPN and in Spanish on UniMĆ”s.
This is Farrellās first MLS All-Star selection and he is the second consecutive Revolution player to be named to an All-Star Gameday Roster as Chris Tierney was named an All-Star in 2015.
Now in his fourth season with New England, Farrell is one of three Revolution players to appear in every match this season. A versatile defensive stalwart who has spent time at both center back and right back in 2016, the 24-year-old Louisville, Ky. native has made 20 appearances so far this season, starting 19 times. Farrell has twice been named to MLS Team of the Week bench, for his Week Four performance at New York City FC and his Week 15 performance at Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Farrell was drafted out of the University of Louisville by the Revolution as the clubās first round (first overall) selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft. Since being selected in 2013, Farrell has appeared in 116 out of 122 League matches, including 115 starts. Farrell has also played in seven of the clubās eight postseason matches since 2013, all starts.
Farrell and the Revolution will return to action on Wednesday, July 20 when they host the Philadelphia Union in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinals at Harvard Universityās Jordan Field. The Revolution will return to League action on Saturday, July 23 when the Chicago Fire comes to Gillette Stadium for an Eastern Conference clash.
