Goncalves and Koffie back in training ahead of Week 33 showdown with Chicago

Gershon Koffie and Jose Goncalves training

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Last week, New England Revolution head coach Jay Heaps called the bye weekend a good opportunity for the Revolution’s injured players to get healthy.

The time off ultimately proved beneficial for Jose Goncalves and Gershon Koffie, both of whom returned to full training when the Revs got back to work earlier this week.

Goncalves and Koffie have both missed time recently with ankle ailments – Goncalves has sat out two games, while Koffie has been sidelined for three – but their potential returns could give Heaps close to a full complement of players ahead of Sunday’s Week 33 showdown with the Chicago Fire.

“We needed some time to get them back on the field,” Heaps said. “We started this week with them on the field, so we’ll see how the week progresses. But it was a good couple days for the guys to kind of reset, recalibrate and rest, and be ready for a big game against Chicago.”

Kelyn Rowe, who played 89 minutes in the Revolution’s 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City in their last outing, also says that he’s “fully recovered” after spending three nights in the hospital with an infection in his small intestine in late September.
