BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Revolution fell to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, in the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal at Harvard University's Jordan Field on Thursday evening. With the loss, New England is eliminated from the 2017 U.S. Open Cup and denied a second consecutive appearance in the semifinal.

Red Bulls forward Bradley Wright-Phillips scored the game's lone goal in the 87^th minute, shortly after Revolution defender Benjamin Angoua was issued a red card for violent conduct. In total, the match – the second meeting between the two teams in nine days – saw seven yellow cards and two red cards.

Despite five saves from goalkeeper Brad Knighton and strong scoring chances from defender Chris Tierney on a free kick in the 23^rd minute and forward Teal Bunbury in the 59^thminute, the one-goal margin proved to be enough for New York. 

New England returns to MLS play on Saturday, July 22, when the club hosts the LA Galaxy. The match will be televised locally to Boston residents on NBC Boston and also on CSN New England, where Brad Feldman, Paul Mariner, and Naoko Funayama will have the call. Revolution Eliminated From 2017 U.S. Open Cup

• The Revolution fell to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, ending the team's 2017 U.S. Open Cup run.
• New England was on the verge of making a second consecutive appearance in the tournament's semifinal for only the second time in club history. The Revs also made back-to-back semifinal appearances in 2007 and 2008.

Tierney Passes Heaps, Dorman for Second Most Open Cup Appearances

• Defender Chris Tierney made his 13^th career U.S. Open Cup appearance for the Revolution in tonight's match, surpassing Jay Heaps and Andy Dorman for the second most Open Cup appearances in team history.
• Tierney now trails only teammate Diego Fagundez, who owns New England's all-time Open Cup appearances record with 15 games played.
• For his Open Cup career, Tierney has totaled one goal and two assists in 13 total appearances and eight starts.

Knighton Submits Five Stops in Standout Performance

·Goalkeeper Brad Knighton was a standout for the Revolution in tonight's match, recording five saves, including a critical stop in the 85^th minute to keep the match level.

·In three U.S. Open Cup matches this year, Knighton yielded only two goals and recorded eight saves. 

Revolution Make Seven Changes to Starting XI from Round of 16 Win

• Revolution Head Coach Jay Heaps made seven changes to the club’s starting lineup from its Round of 16 win against D.C. United on June 28. Kei Kamara, Lee Nguyen, Scott Caldwell, Gershon Koffie, Andrew Farrell, Antonio Delamea, and Chris Tierney replaced Brian Wright, Femi Hollinger-Janzen, Zachary Herivaux, Je-Vaughn Watson, Josh Smith, and Donnie Smith in the starting lineup.   
• Midfielder Kelyn Rowe and forward Juan Agudelo were unavailable for selection in tonight's match as the duo remains with the United States Men's National Team.
• Defender Je-Vaughn Watson was also unavailable due to national team duty, as he is currently with Jamaica for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
