Revolution re-sign four players

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have re-signed forward Teal Bunbury, defender Andrew Farrell, goalkeeper Brad Knighton, and forward Brian Wright through the 2018 MLS season, the club announced today.


"We're pleased to have re-signed veteran presences such as Teal, Andrew, and Brad, they have been and will continue to be important parts of the club," New England Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said, "In addition, we look forward to bringing back Brian as he continues to grow in his development as a player."


Bunbury, 27, returns for a fifth season with the Revolution and his ninth MLS season. The Prior Lake, Minn. native appeared in 28 games, with 13 starts, in 2017. Bunbury, the Revolution's 2017 Players' Player of the Year, scored seven goals on the year, his most in a single season as a Revolution player. In his MLS career, Bunbury has totaled 205 career appearances, including 128 starts, with 36 goals and 21 assists. In the postseason, the forward has made 11 appearances, including 10 starts and has recorded four goals and two assists.


Farrell, 25, returns for a sixth season with the Revolution. The first overall selection of the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, Farrell appeared in 30 games, all starts and recorded a career-high three assists in 2017. Farrell, a mainstay on the Revolution backline, has made at least 30 starts and has exceeded 2,600 minutes played in each of his six MLS seasons. In the postseason, the defender has made seven appearances, all starts.


Knighton, 32, returns for an eighth season with the Revolution and his 11th MLS season. The veteran goalkeeper made six starts in net, registered 20 saves, and recorded a shutout in 2017. In addition, Knighton started in each of the club's three U.S. Open Cup matches. In his MLS career, Knighton has made 59 career appearances, including 57 starts, with 187 saves, 24 wins, and 11 shutouts. Knighton has made one career postseason start with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2012.


Wright, 22, returns for a second season with the Revolution. Wright, the eighth overall selection of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, made two appearances for a combined 45 minutes in his first MLS season. The Ajax, Ontario native made his MLS debut on July 2 at Philadelphia, where he played 37 minutes as a substitute. Wright played in all three U.S. Open Cup matches in 2017, and scored his first professional goal in the Round of 16 victory over D.C. United on June 28.


The Revolution will continue sharing updates on the club’s roster as it takes shape throughout the offseason. The offseason calendar continues on Dec. 21, with Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft. The 2018 MLS SuperDraft will then be held in Philadelphia, Pa. on Friday, Jan. 19.
