FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have signed midfielder Scott Caldwell to a multi-year contract extension, the club announced today. The Braintree, Mass. native and second Homegrown Player signing in club history will remain with the Revolution beyond what is currently his seventh Major League Soccer campaign, all with New England.
Caldwell, 28, has been an integral member of the Revolution first team since the 2013 season, totaling 182 regular season appearances and 149 starts over his seven-year MLS career, with more than 13,000 minutes played. All three of those totals rank Caldwell among the top five in MLS history for service by a Homegrown Player, as he became the second Homegrown signing ever to reach the 10,000-minute milestone in 2017. He has also recorded five goals and 17 assists in league play, with an additional eight games played and two assists in the postseason.

Caldwell’s Career at a Glance:
- Became the second Revolution Academy product to sign as a Homegrown Player with the club in December 2012.
- Ranks among the top five all-time MLS Homegrown Players in minutes played (13,238), games played (182), and games started (149).

A mainstay in the club’s lineup since playing in 29 games as a rookie in 2013, Caldwell’s consistency has led him to at least 24 appearances in each of his six full professional campaigns, including a career-high 34 games played and 32 starts in 2015. For his efforts that year, which included two goals and five assists, Caldwell earned 2015 Team MVP honors from fans and the Players’ Player of the Year award from teammates.
The University of Akron graduate was a two-time National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-American and an Academic All-American with the Zips under current Columbus Crew SC Head Coach Caleb Porter. He appeared in 88 games, with 66 starts, and scored 20 goals with 22 assists in his collegiate career, which included the 2010 NCAA Division1 Championship. In total, Caldwell helped Akron reach the NCAA Tournament four times and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 College Cup, scoring the lone goal in the Zips’ 1-0 win over Louisville in the College Cup Final
Now one of six Revolution Academy products to have joined the first team, Caldwell helped launch the program as captain of the inaugural Revolution Academy Under-18 team in 2008-09. He helped the U-18s earn their first win at a U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase, scoring three goals in 19 minutes in a 6-1 win over North Meck SC on May 25, 2009.
Off the field, Caldwell has long been one of the Revolution’s leading ambassadors in the community, volunteering his time to initiatives and events benefitting more than a dozen of the club’s community partners in 2018 alone. Beginning this season, Caldwell will also be partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital to host Scott’s BCH Dream Team. At six matches this season, beginning on Saturday, April 20, Caldwell will host and meet patients from BCH prior to each game.
