Revs eager to prove they “can win consistently” heading into busy stretch

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – As the New England Revolution sit atop the Eastern Conference standings (17 points) amidst the international break, the squad is set on maintaining their current strong form once regular season play resumes.

Only eight games into the season the Revs are 5-1-2, on a three-game winning streak, and are only one point back of league-leading Seattle Sounders FC.

“We’re an eager group to prove that we can win consistently at home and away,” said Matt Polster. “We have a lot of away games coming up so it’s just a good opportunity to prove it to ourselves and the league that we can win those games.”

The Revs are riding their strong start through the three-week international break, and are eager to continue their momentum as they will head into a busy stretch with three games in nine days when matches resume on June 19.

“It starts on the training pitch,” said Matt Turner. “We’ve been working really hard during these three weeks – just holding ourselves to a certain standard every single day, every single time we step onto the field. We’re working hard that way and know that if we want to keep those good feelings and good vibes going it takes hard work out on the training pitch to get the good results on the field.”

New England will play at New York City FC on June 19 (at Red Bull Arena), return home to host the New York Red Bulls midweek on June 23, and finish the hectic stretch with their lone Western Conference road trip of the season to FC Dallas on June 27.

“We know it’s going to be difficult,” said Polster. “Obviously, three games in nine days isn’t easy, so we’re going to need everybody to step up and help us win those games and get three points.”

Whether it’s throughout a 90-minute performance or coming off the bench, whoever’s name is called throughout these games will be ready.

“We know that Bruce [Arena] isn’t afraid to change the lineup so we know that we’re going to have to rely on our depth if we’re going to get good results,” said Turner. “Two of those three games are on the road so with the travel and all that, it’s definitely going to be like a next man up [situation]. Everyone has to be ready to contribute and hopefully we can get some good results.”

The first opportunity to carry that momentum will be against New York City FC at Red Bull Arena on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
