FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 teams returned to Gillette Stadium for the first time in 2016 last weekend, where they took on Albertson SC. All three teams played on Sunday, March 13, where the U-18s opened with a 1-0 victory, the U-16s won 3-1 and the U-14s closed the Academy slate for the weekend with a 4-2 loss.
While the Revolution Academy was in action last weekend, two Under-18 players were absent due to their involvement with the U.S. Under-18 Boys’ National Team. Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) and Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) are currently training with the U.S. U-18s in an international camp that is being held in Buenos Aires, Argentina from March 7-17.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s played their first competitive match at Gillette Stadium since mid-November on Sunday, when they scored a lone goal which proved to be enough in a 1-0 victory over Albertson SC. Midfielder Joe Brito (Bolton, Conn.) recorded the decisive strike in the 17th minute with forward Izaiah Jennings (Barrington R.I.)picking up the assist. The Revs managed to record 8 shots, including 5 shots on target, during the course of the full ninety minutes. Goalkeeper Billy Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) recorded his second shutout of the 2015-16 season, needing to save just one shot.

The Under-16s were back in action at Gillette Stadium for the first time since mid-November, where they remained unbeaten in 2016 with a 3-1 victory over Albertson SC. Andrew White (Boxborough, Mass.) opened the scoring early, as Connor Haskell (Medfield, Mass.) found White for an easy finish in the third minute of play. The Revs tacked on an additional first half goal as Amos Shapiro-Thompson (Worthington, Mass.) picked up an assist on a 21st minute goal scored by Tim Ennin (East Hartford, Conn.). Albertson SC cut the lead in half at the 53rd minute mark, but Haskell was able to re-establish the two-goal lead in the 76th minute to secure a Revolution victory.

The Under-14s were back in action for the second match of the spring season with a 4-2 loss to Albertson SC on Sunday in the team’s first competitive action at Gillette Stadium since mid-November. The Revs took the lead early as Michael Balleani (Woburn, Mass.) found Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) at the top of the box, where Blanco turned and found the back of the net in the lower right hand corner for his eighth goal of the season. Albertson SC, however, recorded each of the next three goals which occurred in the 12th, 27th and 60th minute mark respectively. The U-14s were able to cut into the deficit in the 80th minute, as Kaoru Fujiwara (Lexington, Mass.) played a one-two pass with Aiden Jay (Boxford, Mass.) allowing Fujiwara to score his second goal of the season.

The Revolution’s U-18 and U-14 Academy teams will take a three-week break before returning back to action as they travel to play Beachside SC on Saturday, April 2. The U-16s, however, will be playing this weekend in the Generation adidas Cup Premier Division in Frisco, Texas. The Revolution are in Group D and will play Monterrey (March 18), Sporting Kansas City (March 20) and the Portland Timbers (March 22).
