FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-18, Under-16 and Under-14 teams returned to U.S. Soccer Development Academy play last weekend, ending a three-month hiatus from league action after games against Seacoast United were postponed due to inclement weather conditions earlier this month. The U-14s began the weekend on Saturday, March 14 with a 4-0 win over Albertson SC before the U-18s and U-16s followed on Sunday with 3-2 and 3-0 victories, respectively. All of the weekend’s games were played at Gillette Stadium.
While their teammates were all playing in Foxborough last weekend, three Under-16 players were absent due to their involvement with the U.S. Under-16 Boys’ National Team. Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.), Daniel Jones (West Hartford, Conn.) and Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) all saw action with the U.S. U-16s in the Netherlands International Tournament, held in Rotterdam.
All three players started against the Czech Republic on March 13, while Rennicks also appeared in the two other games that the U.S. played, recording an assist against the Netherlands on March 15 in the U.S. U-16s’ final game of the tournament. Jones also started at left back against the Dutch U-16 side.
Highlights: vs. Republic of Ireland (March 11), vs. Czech Republic (March 13), vs. Netherlands (March 15)
Under-14 defender Connor Haskell (Medfield, Mass.) was also missing as he completed a week-long training camp with the U.S. Under-15 Boys’ National Team in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s saw their first action since early December on Sunday when they came from behind to earn a 3-2 victory over Albertson SC at Gillette Stadium on the back of two goals and an assist from forward Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.). Kunateh, who made his season debut in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in November, opened the scoring in the 41st minute. The forward picked up the ball wide on the left before cutting inside, beating two players and firing into the far corner to put the Revs 1-0 up heading into halftime. Albertson turned the game around in the second half with two goals in nine minutes as Kevin Arriola and Matt Rosenberg each beat Revolution goalkeeper Bill Sinibaldi (Plaistow, N.H.) to put the visiting side in front 2-1. The Revs responded quickly and were level within six minutes as Kunateh scored his second goal of the game, redirecting a Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) shot form the edge of the area into the back of the net to tie the game up. Kunateh was the creator two minutes later as he slipped Bryant Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass.) into the area, allowing Nardizzi to finish with a shot inside the near post for the game-winning goal and his fifth goal of the season, giving New England a 3-2 win.

The Revs went ahead in the 17th minute as Jennings controlled a loose ball in the Albertson area and slid a finish past the goalkeeper to make the score 1-0. The Revs went ahead early as Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.), who was recently recognized as the top performer in the New England regional futsal showcase, played in Tyler Freitas (North Attleborough, Mass.) who beat the Albertson goalkeeper to put the U-14s up 1-0. The Revolution kept firing after the halftime break as Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.) scored his first competitive goal for the Revolution Academy, hitting a loose ball into the lower right corner after a scramble in the Albertson box. Substitute Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) rounded off the scoring in the 68th minute after a shot from range deflected into his path for a simple finish from close range to make the score 4-0.
