FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Isaac Angking has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team roster by Head Coach Tab Ramos for the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in Bradenton, Fla. The Homegrown midfielder from Providence, R.I. will join the national team on Tuesday, Oct. 23 for a week of training before the tournament, which runs from Nov. 1–21. He will be unavailable for the Revolution’s regular season finale vs. Montreal on Oct. 28.
Angking, 18, will be making his first appearance with the U.S. Men’s National Team at the Under-20 level, having previously represented the United States with the U-14, U-15, U-17, and U-19 teams. His most recent call-up came in September 2018, when he joined the U-19s for a four-team international tournament in Bradenton that included the U.S. U-20 squad, Venezuela, and Jamaica. In the tournament, Angking appeared in all three of the U-19s’ matches, starting two, and helped the side finish atop the tournament table with seven points. He tallied one goal in the three matches, converting a penalty kick in the United States’ 4-1 win against Jamaica.
The 2018 CONCACAF Under-20 Championship marks a critical competition for the U-20 squad, as the tournament will determine the four CONCACAF representatives at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team will open play with matches against Puerto Rico (Nov. 1) and the U.S. Virgin Islands (Nov. 3), before facing Trinidad and Tobago (Nov. 5), Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (Nov. 7), and Suriname (Nov. 9). Additional group matches are slated for Nov. 13 and Nov. 16, with the semifinals and final set for Nov. 19 and Nov. 21, respectively.
Angking, who became the club’s fourth Homegrown Player signing in January 2018 after more than four seasons in the Revolution Academy, has impressed in limited MLS action since returning from an illness that kept him out most of his debut season. The attack-minded midfielder has registered three substitute appearances. He made his debut on Sept. 5 at New York City FC and rang his first shot attempt off the woodwork, before making a second consecutive appearance on Sept. 15 at LAFC. Angking most recently played nine minutes in the club’s home match on Oct. 13 vs. Orlando City SC.
Revolution Academy alum Justin Rennicks, currently a sophomore forward at the University of Indiana, has also been named to the 20-man roster by Tab Ramos. Rennicks, the two-time UnitedHealthcare Academy Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, totaled more than 100 appearances over five seasons in the Revs Academy and recorded 38 goals with 25 assists. The Hamilton, Mass. native has totaled five goals and one assist in his two seasons with Indiana, with all five tallies coming in 15 starts this season.
The Revolution will conclude the 2018 regular season on Sunday, Oct. 28 with a home contest against the Montreal Impact. The match kicks off at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
