FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Alexander Büttner arrived as the New England Revolution’s first addition of the offseason on Friday morning, but he certainly won’t be the last.
Sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena and his staff have leapt headlong into their first offseason with the Revs, and they’re hopeful that more additions will be finalized in the next two months.
“We’re looking to make two or three additional moves,” said Arena. “Hopefully by the end of the year we’ll have that completed.”
Arena secured the Büttner signing before the 2019 MLS season has officially wrapped – MLS Cup between Toronto FC and Seattle Sounders FC is set for Sunday, November 10 – and he said there is a sense of urgency to make additional moves prior to preseason camp beginning in January.
“In a perfect world,” Arena said when asked if he hopes to have additions made before preseason. “We’d like to have this team together in preseason and go all the way through and see where we land in the end. I think it’ll be beneficial for us to have a full group in place when we report for preseason.”
