FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā New England Revolution Academy players Eliot Jones (New Britain, Conn.), Patrick Leal (Newton, Mass.), Morris Matthews (Cambridge, Mass.), and Zach Sardi-Santos (Newton, Mass.) have been called in to the U.S. Under-14 National Team for an eight-day domestic training camp in Carson, Calif. The four players are among the 36 participants that have been called into the eight-day camp, which began on Saturday, Feb. 18 and ends on Saturday, Feb. 25. This marks the first time that Patrick Leal has been called in to a U.S. Youth National Team camp while playing for the Revolution Academy. Jones, Matthews, and Sardi-Santos were called in for a U.S. U-14 camp in November 2016.
During the camp, the U-14 BNT will face Club Tijuanaās U-15 and U-14 (birth year 2002 and 2003, respectively) squads in two friendly matches on Feb. 24.
Jones, 13, has made 12 appearances in his two seasons with the Academy. This season, the goalkeeper has allowed just one goal over 308 minutes while playing with the Revolutionās U-13s, giving him a goals against average of 0.23. The New Britain, Conn. product has recorded two shutouts and has made appearances in four additional clean sheets for the Under-13s.
Leal, 13, has made 11 appearances in his first year with the Academy. This season, the midfielder/forward has recorded an assist in 405 minutes while playing with the Revolutionās U-13s. The Cambridge, Mass. native has been a steady presence in the midfield, playing in 11 of the U-13sā 12 matches this season.
Matthews, 13, has made 10 combined appearances in his first year with the Academy, including three games while playing up with the Under-14s. This season, the defender/midfielder has registered one assist in 644 minutes of action. The Cambridge, Mass. native has played a part in a combined six clean sheet performances for the Under-13s and Under-14s.
Sardi-Santos, 13, has made 10 appearances with the Under-13s in his first year with the Academy. The defender currently ranks third among Under-13 players with 499 minutes played this season. The Newton, Mass. native has played in six of the seven clean sheet performances recorded by the Under-13s this season.
