FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Four New England Revolution Academy players have been called in to a U.S. Under-18 National Team training camp. Goalkeeper Trey Miller, defenders Calvin Aroh and Daniel Jones and forward Justin Rennicks are all included on the 24-man roster for the camp, which began yesterday in Carson, California. The camp is set to run through October 26 with games scheduled against Canada’s Under-18 side on Oct. 23 and Oct. 25.
“We’re delighted that all four of these players have earned another opportunity to compete with the National Team,” Revolution director of youth development Bryan Scales said. “They are competing in a very important age group and are approaching a critical stage in their development as they move closer to soccer at the highest level.”
Aroh, Jones and Rennicks last played for the U.S. U-18s at the Open Nordic Cup, which was held in Sunne, Sweden from July 30 through Aug. 10. In that tournament, Aroh made one start while Jones appeared in every game, scoring the winner against the Faroe Islands. Up front, Rennicks earned a penalty for his side against Sweden before tallying the game-winning assist in the win over Finland.
Miller was most recently involved with the U.S. Under-16 National Team in June, attending a training camp in Sunrise, Florida alongside Aroh, Jones and Rennicks.
Currently in his third season with the Revolution Academy, Aroh has made 63 appearances with the Under-14, Under-16 and Under-18 teams, including eight with the U-18s so far in the 2015-16 season. The 16-year-old center back has seven goals and three assists in his time with the Academy, with one goal and one assist coming earlier this season. The Glastonbury, Connecticut native was also previously called in to a U.S. Under-14 National Team camp in August 2013, before being included in two U.S. Under-16 rosters in March and June earlier this year.
Jones, who plays primarily as an attacking left back, is in his fourth year with the Revolution Academy, having joined ahead of the 2012-13 season. A native of West Hartford, Conn., he has made 81 appearances with the Academy, with 10 coming this season, tallying 14 goals and nine assists in that time. Jones, 16, has previously been called in to three U.S. Under-16 camps and tournaments in the past year before advancing to the U.S. U-18s for the Open Nordic Cup this summer.
Miller has played in 64 games with the Revolution Academy since his debut at the start of the 2012-13 season. The Monson, Mass. native has recorded 22 shutouts in that time and posted a 1.02 goals against average heading into the 2015-16 campaign. A key member of the Revs U-16 team that advanced to the Development Academy Playoff Quarterfinals last season, the 16-year-old recorded 15 shutouts in 31 appearances and registered a 0.87 goals against average in the process. So far this season, Miller has made six appearances, tallying one shutout.
A pacey forward, Rennicks has made 86 appearances in his four seasons with the Academy. The South Hamilton, Mass. native has scored 27 goals and added 23 assists since joining the Academy ahead of the 2012-13 season, including three goals and two assist in 10 appearances so far in the 2015-16 campaign. The 16-year-old has tallied either a goal or an assist in each National Team tournament he has taken part in, scoring for the U.S. U-16s at the 2015 Aegan Cup International Youth Tournament in January and recording an assist for the U-16s at the Netherlands International Tournament in March, before tallying another assist at the Open Nordic Cup with the U-18s in August.
