FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Maciel underwent successful surgery to repair his left Achilles tendon on Monday, October 3. The procedure was performed by Dr. George Theodore at Massachusetts General Hospital. Maciel’s rehabilitation is expected to take approximately 8-12 months.
The Brazilian recently completed his second MLS campaign and his third professional season. He made 16 appearances with seven starts during the 2022 season, registering one assist. Over two seasons with the Revolution first team, Maciel has appeared in 35 regular season matches, making 22 starts, and also made one playoff appearance in the 2021 MLS Eastern Conference Semifinal.
Maciel, 22, is one of seven former Revolution II players to have ascended to the first team roster. A member of the inaugural 2020 Revolution II squad, Maciel made 20 starts for the second team over two seasons.
The Revolution conclude the 2022 MLS season on Sunday, October 9 at Chicago Fire FC. The match at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Ill. kicks off at 2:30 p.m. along with all other Eastern Conference matches on MLS Decision Day 2022.
