International Roundup | Trio of Zahibo, Turner, Rivera wrap up national team duty

Zahibo, Turner, Rivera international call-up

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Another international break wound to a close on Tuesday evening, wrapping up the opportunity for three New England Revolution players to represent their countries.

Wilfried Zahibo made a pair of appearances for the Central African Republic as they kicked off qualification for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. Zahibo made his full international debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 home win over Burundi on Nov. 13, before making his first start in Les Fauves’ 2-0 loss to Mauritania on Nov. 19. The Central African Republic currently sit third in qualifying Group E, with a pair of matches against group leaders Morocco set for next August/September.

Matt Turner closed out his first-ever camp with the U.S. National Team still in search of his first cap after appearing on the bench for the Americans’ pair of victories – 4-1 over Canada, and 4-0 over Cuba – to win Group A of Concacaf Nations League A and set up a semifinal meeting with Honduras next June. Turner will hope for another chance to impress in the USMNT’s annual January camp.

Damian Rivera, signed as the seventh Homegrown Player in Revs history on Nov. 8, made two appearances with the U.S. Under-17 National Team during the Nike International Friendlies in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Rivera made a brief substitute appearance in the U17s’ 1-0 win over Turkey, before starting and playing the first half of a 2-0 loss to the U.S. Under-16 National Team.
