FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution Academy player Isaac Angking has been called in to the U.S. Under-17 National Team for the 2017 Spring Semester of the U.S. Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla. Angking is one of 32 players named to the program, as well as one of 28 who are returning after participating in the 2016 Fall Semester.
The U-17 MNT now looks ahead to an eventful year, with the U-17 World Cup qualifying tournament set to take place from April 14-May 8 in Panama. While the main objective of the Residency Program continues to be player development, the emphasis will shift to building a team that is capable of qualifying for the World Cup.
Angking has made 70 appearances in his four seasons with the Academy. The Providence, R.I. native has scored 17 goals and added 16 assists since joining the Academy ahead of the 2013-14 season. In addition to his participation in the Residency Program during the 2016 Fall Semester, the fourth-year midfielder, along with current Revolution Academy player, Tyler Freitas, participated in the 2016 Spring Semester.
During the 2016 Fall Semester, Angking participated in a pair of friendlies against Costa Rica, a U-17 international camp in Jamaica, and the 13th annual Nike International Friendlies, where the U.S. U-17s captured the title for the first time since 2013.
Angking spent time in Bradenton for a week-long U.S. Under-15 National Team camp in November 2015. In August 2015, the 16-year-old was selected for the Generation adidas ESP event in August, where he played and trained with other elite MLS Academy players as well as an All-Star team from Bayern Munich’s Academy. He was also called in for a U.S. U-15 camp in Bradenton in December 2014 and a U.S. Under-14 National Team camp in Carson, California in August 2014.
