FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have impressed in their last 13 games, going 7-1-5 as they look to make a playoff push through their final nine regular-season matches. While there has been some rotation in the lineups throughout this stretch, there are four New England players who have been gaining valuable minutes on loan with teams in the USL Championship, including Zach Herivaux, Brian Wright, Isaac Angking and Justin Rennicks.
All four players are on loan to USL Championship sides who are in the mix for the playoff race in the East, and they could be recalled to the Revolution at any point through the remainder of the 2019 campaign.
Zach Herivaux (Birmingham Legion FC)
Revolution midfielder Zach Herivaux has been with Birmingham Legion FC since March, briefly departing to join Haiti during the Concacaf Gold Cup. The Homegrown signing has started in 13 games under the leadership of Jay Heaps (president and general manager) and Tom Soehn (head coach), totaling 1,124 minutes. Through this stretch he’s completed 84.8% of his passes, and 81.5% of his tackles have been successful. He’s played primarily in central midfield at the number six position, but has also played as a number 10 and number eight. Herivaux has also made two starts at center back, as the 23-year-old continues to show his versatility.
Brian Wright (Birmingham Legion FC)
Forward Brian Wright was also loaned to Birmingham Legion FC in March. The 24-year-old has played in 15 games for the USL Championship side, making 12 starts. Wright has been a regular fixture in their lineup, tallying three goals and two assists in his 1,182 minutes of play. To top it off, he’s been selected twice for USL Team of the Week, in Weeks 4 and 19.
Both Wright and Herivaux have played key roles for Birmingham Legion FC, who currently sit in the 10th and final USL playoff spot in the East.
Isaac Angking (Charlotte Independence)
Isaac Angking joined the Charlotte Independence on loan in early August. In only two weeks the Homegrown midfielder has already made one appearance in the starting lineup in a 3-3 draw with Loudoun United FC. Angking had a 75-minute run in central midfield, with an 87% pass competition rate.
Charlotte sits at 12th place in the East, just one point back of 10th place Birmingham. However, Charlotte has played more games than other teams competing for those last few berths, which means it will be an uphill battle to clinch a playoff spot.
Justin Rennicks (North Carolina FC)
Justin Rennicks was also loaned out in early August, joining North Carolina FC, coached by longtime Bruce Arena assistant and former U.S. National Team interim head coach Dave Sarachan. In his two appearances, the Homegrown forward has come off the bench to play a total of 26 minutes - seven minutes in his debut against Indy Eleven on August 3, and 19 minutes against Memphis 901 FC on August 10. The rookie has registered one shot but has yet to convert for NCFC in this short span.
As North Carolina FC sits comfortably at 5th in the East, 14 points above the playoff line, Rennicks may have an opportunity to make an impact in the postseason.
