FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 10, 2023) – New England Revolution midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye and defender/midfielder Christian Makoun have been up called up for international duty by their respective national teams. Kaye will join the Canada Men’s National Team for its Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals match against Jamaica on Tuesday, Nov. 21 in Toronto. Makoun has been selected by Venezuela for a pair of matches in CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 26™ qualifying. Venezuela will host Ecuador on Thursday, Nov. 16, before visiting Peru on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
Kaye has been capped 40 times by Canada, with two goals and six assists at the senior level. The 28-year-old midfielder was last selected for Concacaf Nations League play in March, when he made one appearance as a substitute. The Toronto native played for Canada in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ campaign, making one appearance in the group stage. Acquired by New England in a trade with Toronto FC in July 2023, Kaye recorded three assists in 10 MLS regular season appearances with New England this season. Kaye, who has now played six MLS seasons since his debut campaign with Los Angeles FC in 2018, has totaled 15 goals and 26 assists over 148 career appearances in regular season play.
Makoun has recorded eight senior international caps, tallying one assist, for ‘La Vinotinto.’ The 23-year-old was most recently selected to Venezuela’s roster for FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in October, registering a full 90-minute performance in the 1-1 draw against Brazil on Oct. 13. During the 2023 regular season, Makoun recorded one assist over nine MLS appearances, including five starts. In four MLS seasons, Makoun has accumulated 60 league appearances with three clubs.
