HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (April 9, 2024) – New England Revolution II (1-1-0; 3 pts.) are on the road to play against FC Cincinnati 2 (0-2-1; 1 pt.) on Wednesday night at NKU Soccer Stadium. The midweek match kicks off at 6:00 p.m. ET with Josh Appel calling the action on MLSNEXTPro.com.
New England visits FC Cincinnati 2 following its first victory of the season last weekend, a 2-1 triumph in the first-ever encounter against MLS NEXT Pro expansion side, Carolina Core FC, last Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Revolution II’s first win of the 2024 campaign was highlighted by goal-and-assist performances from two of its Homegrown Players in forward Malcolm Fry and midfielder Jack Panayotou.
Fry wasted no time getting New England started on a high note, netting an early goal with a header off a corner kick from Panayotou to open his 2024 account. After the Core knotted the game at 1-1 in the closing minutes of the first half, New England’s Homegrown duo connected again to put Revolution II ahead for good. Panayotou converted on Fry’s cross inside the box to give New England the 2-1 advantage.
Revolution II goalkeeper Max Weinstein led the defensive efforts with a two-save performance. The Revolution Academy product has started both of New England’s first two matches of the season. Five other Revolution Academy products featured in Sunday’s victory in Colby Quiñones, Damario McIntosh, Gevork Diarbian, Eric Klein, and Cristiano Oliveira. Revolution II newcomer Luka Borovic recorded his first minutes in MLS Next Pro as well, entering the match in the 80th minute as a substitute.
New England and FC Cincinnati 2 will meet on Wednesday for the first of three matches between the two sides this season. Revolution II and FC Cincinnati 2 have played one another to 2-1-1 record in the all-time series between the two teams, including a 5-5 draw on April 30 of last year, the highest scoring MLS NEXT Pro match to date.
