Led by the dominant duo of Gustavo Bou and Carles Gil – who each registered one goal and one assist – the New England Revolution stayed unbeaten at home (6-0-3) with a comfortable 3-1 win over Orlando City SC this past weekend. For their efforts, both Bou and Gil landed on the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi, while teammate Dave Romney earned recognition with a spot on the bench.
Bou scored what proved to be the game winner in the 69th minute, cutting inside onto his less favored left foot and driving home a shot inside the far post. Gil provided a secondary assist to help get Bou back on the scoresheet for the first time since he scored in back-to-back games on March 18 and March 25.
Bou and Gil then reversed roles as the Argentine set up the Spaniard for his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 85th minute, salting away the result as Gil similarly cut inside onto his left foot for a finish to the far post.
The performance was a perfect way for Bou to mark his 100th Revolution appearance in all competitions, and the 33-year-old's tally of 42 goals since debuting on July 17, 2019, is fourth most in MLS including playoffs. Gil, meanwhile, registered his second consecutive one-goal, one-assist performance, and his 15 goal contributions this season (seven goals, eight assists) are tied for third most leaguewide.
Romney, who is now the only Revolution player to have appeared in all 18 games this season (playing every minute), had team highs in recoveries (12) and clearances (6) to go along with three tackles won to earn his spot on the bench.
The Revs will close out their three-game homestand on Saturday night when they'll host Toronto FC at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET with FREE coverage in both English and Spanish on Apple TV, while the local radio call will be available in English on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
