FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy returns to MLS NEXT spring action this weekend after the U-15s and U-17s spent 10 days competing in the Generation adidas Cup at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
On Sunday, April 2, the U-19s earned a 2-0 victory over Beachside SC Marco Dos Santos (2005 – Methuen, Mass.) and Gianluca Armellino (2005 – Plainville, Mass.) each tallied while Kevin Christensen (2006 – Natick, Mass.) kept the clean sheet to secure his team’s fourth win of the spring.
Down in Bradenton, the U-15s and U-17s competed in the annual Generation adidas Cup. The U-15s went 1-0-2 in group play, playing Austin FC and Columbus Crew to draws and defeating Club América, 4-2. The U-15s then earned a 1-0-2 record during showcase play, beating the Portland Timbers, 2-1, and playing Sporting KC and Pumas UNAM to 2-2 and 0-0 draws, respectively. Cliff-Grova Rwabira (2008 – Portland, M.E.) led the U-15s with three goals in the tournament, while Cristiano Carlos (2008 – Chicopee, Mass.) and Judah Siqueira (2009 – South Easton, Mass.) each netted two tallies.
The U-17s battled Nashville SC to a scoreless draw to open group play but fell to Orlando City SC and Club León before heading into showcase action. Eric Klein (2006 – Manheim, Penn.) and Eric Martinez (2006 – Perris, Calif.) each scored to lift the team to a 2-1 win over Atlanta United. The U-17s fell to the Colorado Rapids, 1-0, before earning a 3-0 victory over St. Louis CITY2 as Owen Beninga (2007 – Jackson, W.Y.) earned the clean sheet.
The U-19s and U-14s will travel to play against Rochester New York FC Academy on Saturday before the U-19s take on BW Gottschee Academy on Sunday. - Featuring in the Starting XI for Revolution II for the third consecutive match, U-17 defender Peyton Miller (2007 – Unionville, Conn.) tallied his first professional assist on Homegrown midfielder Damian Rivera’s game-tying goal in New England’s 5-1 victory over Philadelphia Union II on Monday.
- U-17 goalkeepers Ryan Carney (2006 – Dunstable, Mass.) and Owen Beninga (2007 – Jackson, W.Y.) each earned clean sheets at GA Cup with Carney in net for his team’s 0-0 draw with Nashville SC and Beninga in goal for the U-17s’ 3-0 win over St. Louis CITY.
- U-17 forwards Eric Martinez (2006 – Perris, Calif.) and Raphael Alves (2007 – Framingham, Mass.) each tallied two goals in the tournament.
- U-15 forward Cliff-Grova Rwabira (2008 – Portland, M.E.) tallied a team-leading three goals during GA Cup including a brace in his team’s 4-2 win over Club América.
- U-15 goalkeeper Sean Cory (2008 – Wrentham, Mass.) closed out the tournament with a clean sheet performance in his team’s 0-0 draw with Pumas UNAM.
