New England Revolution II sign Revolution Academy alum Tyler Freitas

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā€“ New England Revolution II has signed defender Tyler Freitas (pronounced: FRAY-tuss) to a USL League One contract pending receipt of his ITC and Federation approval.


Freitas, 20, was a member of the Revolution Academy from 2014-19, earning the 2019 UnitedHealthcare Revolution Academy Player of the Year Award. The North Attleborough, Mass. native spent the 2019-20 season playing professionally in Spain for A.D. Colmenar Viejo alongside his older brother and fellow Revolution Academy graduate, Justin Freitas.


Prior to his professional career, Freitas spent five years developing in the Revolution Academy, finishing his youth career with 109 games played, including 93 starts, with seven goals across all four age levels. The outside back spent parts of the 2018 and 2019 MLS preseasons with the New England Revolution first team. During New Englandā€™s 2019 preseason in Marbella, Spain, Freitas featured twice at right back against Shanghai Shenhua FC and FC Viktoria Plzeň.


The defender also has experience with the United State Youth National Team, earning a call-up to the Under-17 team in April 2017 for friendly matches against Canada as well as a prior invitation to a U.S. Youth National Team Futures Camp in May 2015.


The 2021 USL League One regular season continues Saturday, April 17 when Revolution II hosts Richmond Kickers at Gillette Stadium in the clubā€™s home opener. Revolution IIā€™s second season features a 28-game slate running through October and will culminate in a six-team playoff in November.
