POSTGAME NOTES: Revolution II Fall to Crown Legacy FC, 2-1

MATTHEWS, N.C. (May 8, 2024) – New England Revolution II (3-4-1; 11 pts.) fell to Crown Legacy FC (2-3-3; 11 pts.), 2-1, on Wednesday night at Sportsplex at Matthews. Joshua Bolma tallied New England’s lone goal in the match, while goalkeeper JD Gunn made four saves in his fourth start of the season.

The match remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes with New England dominating possession in the opening frame. Gunn held strong in net, stopping the lone shot he faced in the first half. Revolution II entered the second half down a man after defender Santiago Suarez was shown a red card in the 43rd minute. Crown Legacy would see a red card of its own in the 57th minute with Phillip Mayaka earning his second yellow card, leaving both teams to finish out the match with 10 players a side.

Crown Legacy found the scoresheet first with goals in the 73rd and 78th minutes. Revolution II battled back as Joshua Bolma netted his first goal of the season in the 88th minute. Revolution Academy’s Eric Klein recorded his first professional assist on the play, sending a long ball up to Bolma who ran up the left side of the field and sailed the ball to the bottom right corner from just inside the 18-yard box. Revolution II recorded three shots on target in the second half as New England nearly tied the match up in stoppage time with Malcolm Fry sending in a cross that just passed Andrej Bjelajac and Bolma.

With his 90-minute performance on Wednesday, Marcos Dias surpassed 4,000 minutes played with Revolution II. Dias led the team with three shots, one on target in the contest. New England newcomer Moshtaba Al-Hasnawi also saw action for the second consecutive match, entering as a substitute in the 65th minute and registering two shots.
