BRADENTON, Fla. – The New England Revolution are in the homestretch of their preseason trip to Bradenton, Fla., with only one game remaining before their flight back to Boston on Sunday.
With a little more than a week before New England’s season opener in Dallas on March 2, the Revs will close their preseason slate with a final test against Icelandic side KR Reykjavik on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.
“We need to get our first team boys on the field and have another run out because it wasn’t nice what ended up happening [Wednesday] night, and I’ll be expecting a far more competitive bunch,” said head coach Brad Friedel.
The Revs have seen a mix of results throughout preseason with two wins, two draws and four losses throughout the past four weeks. New England are aiming to carry momentum from Thursday's victory over USL League One side Greenville Triumph SC into their game against Reykjavik, while they also simultaneously look to generate a response from Wednesday’s loss to Orlando City SC.
“A response is definitely needed from Wednesday night, but the guys that stepped up yesterday did a great job, so definitely looking to put that in the rear view mirror and see what we have going forward because the season starts in just over a week,” said Scott Caldwell. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
The Revs understand that the season is just around the corner and they need to use Saturday’s game as a dress rehearsal, as they try to close out preseason with one final victory to propel them into the regular season.
“We just have to keep moving forward,” said Diego Fagundez. “We need to finish this preseason strong. We know we’re only [about] a week away from our season start, so we just have to work hard this week, play one more game, and then basically head home and prepare for Dallas.”
