FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy’s MLS NEXT spring season continued over the weekend with all four teams back in action. The U-15s and U-17s each took on Nashville SC while the U-19s and U-14s faced off against Seacoast United on Saturday before the 14s, 15s, and 17s took on Beachside Soccer Club on Sunday.
The U-17s scored nine goals over the weekend, winning their match vs. Nashville SC, 5-2, before shutting out Beachside, 4-0. Olger Escobar (2006 – Malden, Mass.) and Cristiano Oliveira (2008 – Somerville, Mass.) each scored three goals between the two matches while Eric Martinez (2006 – Perris, Calif.) and Gershom Matimano (2007 – Hampton, N.H.) also found the back of the net. Goalkeepers Ryan Carney (2006 – Dunstable, Mass.) and Owen Beninga (2007 – Jackson, W.Y.) combined for the clean sheet on Sunday, each playing 45 minutes.
The U-15s notched two clean sheets in their matches as Cliff-Grova Rwabira (2008 – Portland, M.E.) tallied the lone goal on Saturday vs. Nashville while Braydon Fagundes (2008 – Warwick, R.I.) and Luis Fontalvo (2008 – Central Falls, R.I.) both scored in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Beachside. Sean Cory (2008 – Wrentham, Mass.) and Jose Goodman Millman (2008 – Cocheton, N.Y.) each earned shutouts, securing their team’s second and third clean sheets of the spring season.
The U-19s played Seacoast United to a 2-2 draw on Saturday as Gianluca Armellino (2005 – Plainville, Mass.) tallied in the 56th minute while Alex St. John (2005 – Needham, Mass.) scored in the 90th to secure the point for his team. The U-14s and Seacoast United were scoreless in their match as Reinner Fidelis (2009 – Peabody, Mass.) led his team to a clean sheet. The U-14s fell 3-0 in their match vs. Beachside SC on Sunday.
The U-15s and U-17s will now compete in the Generation adidas Cup at IMG Academy in Florida. To kick off their group stages, the U-15s will take on Austin FC, Columbus Crew, and Club America while the U-17s will face Nashville SC, Orlando City, and Club Leon.
