FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy Under-16 team clinched a berth in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs last weekend, highlighting a weekend that saw the three Revolution Academy teams go a combined 2-2-1 against Oakwood Soccer Club and BW Gottschee Academy while wrapping up their regular season. The U-16s and U-14s each earned wins on Saturday against Oakwood, while the U-18s played to a 1-1 draw that left them in need of a win the following day in order to advance to the postseason. However, both the U-18s and the U-16s lost that day, falling 1-0 and 2-0 respectively, to BW Gottschee, leaving the U-18s one point shy of a fourth straight postseason berth.
On Wednesday, the Revolution U-16s were drawn into Group A of the U-16 Development Academy Playoffs, which will be held in Westfield, Indiana later this month. Joining them in Group A are the Crew SC Academy Wolves, who won the Mid-America Division of the Central Conference, the Capital Area RailHawks, the third place finisher in the Southeast Division of the East Conference, and Seattle Sounders FC, who finished fourth in the Northwest Division of the West Conference and received one of 11 wild card berths to the postseason. The U-16s will face the Capital Area RailHawks on June 23 before facing the Crew SC Academy Wolves the following day and finishing up their group play against Seattle Sounders FC on June 26.
While there are no U-14 Academy Playoffs, the Revolution U-14s will be heading to Indiana later this month for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase, where the Revs U-14s will face SC United Battery on June 19, fellow MLS Academy side the San Jose Earthquakes on June 20, and FC Golden State on June 22 at the Grand Park Sports Campus.
The complete list of last weekend’s results is below:
The Under-18s began the weekend with a 1-1 draw with Oakwood Soccer Club on Saturday. After a tight first half without many clear chances, both sides raised the tempo after the break. After goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) had made several key saves, the Revs went ahead in the 59th minute through Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.), who was playing his final game before heading to Florida for a U.S. U-16 National Team camp. A free kick from captain John Wilkins (Natick, Mass.) found Aroh in the area, and the defender tapped the ball into the net for his first goal at U-18 level. The Revolution were denied the win late in the game, as Michael Boakye equalized for Oakwood SC in the 83rd minute to make the final score 1-1 and leave the Revs needing to beat BW Gottschee the following day to qualify for the playoffs.

The Under-16s clinched a playoff berth on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Oakwood Soccer Club at Gillette Stadium. The Revs were dominant from start to finish and were 2-0 up within the first 20 minutes with a pair of goals from Alex Clarke (Windsor, Conn.). First, in the 14th minute, Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.) played a ball over the top of the Oakwood defense that Clarke ran onto and chipped the goalkeeper from the edge of the area to make the score 1-0. After receiving a pass from Gustavo Cassemiro (Framingham, Mass.), who had only just entered the play at the break, Angking dribbled through four Oakwood defenders before slotting a low shot beyond the goalkeeper to make the score 3-0. Cassemiro then completed the scoring in the 51st minute, when Travis van Brewer (Wilbraham, Mass.) carried the ball to the endline on the left side of the field before crossing for Cassemiro to volley in his third goal for the U-16s this season. Goalkeeper Trey Miller (Monson, Mass.) made three saves on his way to recording his 11th shutout of the season as the side qualified for the playoffs for the first time since the 2011-12 season.
