Revolution Academy Update: November 19, 2015

Youth teams vs. BW Gottschee

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā€“ The New England Revolution Academy teams endured a frustrating weekend, as all three teams were defeated at home by New York-based BW Gottschee Academy. The Under-18s saw their three-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 1-0 defeat before the Under-16s were handed just their second defeat of the season, falling 3-1, while the Under-14s closed out the day with a 2-1 loss.

UNDER-18s

The Under-18s opened up the day with a 1-0 defeat to BW Gottschee Academy ā€“ their first loss in four games dating back to late October. It was a tight game with few chances for either side, but BW Gottschee scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute through Bernie Wright and the visitors were able to hold off the Revs until the final whistle to remain unbeaten on the season.

UNDER-16s

The Under-16s suffered just their second defeat of the season on Saturday, falling 3-1 to BW Gottschee Academy. After falling behind early following a goal from Daquan Brown, the Revs took control of the game and equalized in the 29th minute. Gustavo Cassemiro (Framingham, Mass.) found space on the right wing and hit a cross into the area that looped over the BW Gottschee goalkeeper, and Laz Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.) was on hand at the back post to tap the ball into the back of the net and make the score 1-1.

The score would only remain tied for two minutes before Brown scored his second of the game, putting BWG 2-1 in front heading into the halftime break. The Revs would push for an equalizer in the second half but it was BW Gottschee who scored again in the 76th minute, with Brown heading in to complete his hat trick and make the final score 3-1. Despite the result, the Revs U-16s still have the most points in the Northeast Division with a 7-2-3 record for 24 points, two points ahead of their nearest challengers.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s wrapped up the day with a 2-1 loss against BW Gottschee Academy in their first game since their showcase last month in North Carolina. The Revs fell behind just before halftime, with Jeremy Saravia scoring for BW Gottschee to make the score 1-0 to the visitors going into the break.

The Revs U-14s pulled level in the 45th minute, when Jonathan Ferreira (Ashland, Mass.) scored his fifth goal of the season. The play started in the defense with center back Sergio Zacarias (Billerica, Mass.) playing a long ball over the top for Jared Cain (Franklin, Mass.), who got behind the Gottschee defense and found Ferreira at the top of the area. The forward then hit a powerful left-footed strike past the BWG goalkeeper, making the score 1-1. However, Ferreiraā€™s goal would not be enough for the Revolution to earn a draw, as Conor McMahon scored for the visitors with eight minutes remaining to help them claim a 2-1 victory.
