Revolution Academy Update: September 23, 2016

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – For the first time in the 2016-17 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season, all four Revolution Academy teams were in action on Saturday, Sept. 17. The Under-18s, Under-16s, Under-14s, and Under-13s travelled to Portland, Conn., where each team squared off with Oakwood Soccer Club. The Under-14s and Under-13s were back in action on Sunday, Sept. 18, when both teams returned home for matches against World Class FC. The Revolution and Oakwood Soccer Club drew each of the four matches on Saturday, but the Under-14s and Under-13s each picked up victories against World Class FC on Sunday.


All four Academy teams will be in action this weekend, when each of the four age groups will host home matches against FC Boston Bolts on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Under-14s and Under-13s will play at Medway High School in Medway, Mass., while the Under-18s and Under-16s will play at East Providence High School in East Providence, R.I.


WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Midfielder Michael Balleani ’02 (Woburn, Mass.) and midfielder Damian Rivera ‘02 (Cranston, R.I.) netted two goals, leading the Under-14s to a 7-1 victory over World Class FC’s Under-14s.
  • Forward Justin Rennicks ’99 (South Hamilton, Mass.) scored his second goal in as many games, while forward Izaiah Jennings ’98 (Barrington, R.I.) registered his first goal of the season, contributing to the Under-18s 2-2 draw with Oakwood Soccer Club’s Under-18s.
  • Goalkeepers Connel O’Brien ’02 (Rochester, N.H.) and Eliot Jones ’03 (New Britain, Conn.) posted shutouts in their respective matches. O’Brien and the Under-14s as well as Jones and the Under-13s played Oakwood’s Under-14s and Under-13s to scoreless draws.
  • Six players registered their first career goals as a Revolution Academy player. Aidan Melville ’02 (Cumberland, Maine), Gabriel Padilla ’02 (Framingham, Mass.), Damian Rivera ’02 (Cranston, R.I.), and Michael Tscioulias ’02 (Newton, Mass.) posted their first goals for the Under-14s. Meanwhile, Hikaru Fujiwara ‘03 (Lexington, Mass.) and Felipe Vieira ’03 (Malden Mass.) scored for the Under-13s.
  • Goalkeeper Pat Quinn ’00 (Manchester, N.H.) recorded a save on a late penalty attempt, securing a 1-1 draw for the Under-16s over Oakwood SC’s Under-16s.
