FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 28, 2023) – The New England Revolution exercised the permanent transfer option on forward Tomás Chancalay (pronounced toe-MOSS CHON-kah-LIE) from Racing Club in his native Argentina. Chancalay, 24, is signed to a Major League Soccer contract as a Designated Player through the 2026 MLS season with an additional one-year club option.
Since his Revolution debut on Aug. 26, Chancalay tallied six goals across 11 MLS appearances to finish among the team’s top-five scorers for the 2023 league campaign despite his midseason arrival. He earned two selections to the MLS Team of the Matchday and added two more starts in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. The dynamic winger caught on quickly with New England, scoring two goals in only his third MLS appearances, the first of two multi-goal performances on the year. Chancalay averaged 0.63 goals per 90 minutes played over the final third of the season, 10th best among all MLS players with at least 600 minutes played since his late-August debut.
“Tomás performed admirably in his first season in New England and possesses both the natural attacking instincts and technical prowess to be an elite attacking talent in our league,” Revolution Interim Sporting Director Curt Onalfo said. “Based on his productivity and performance during his first season with the Revolution, it was a straightforward decision to extend his time in New England. We look forward to watching Tomás continue to flourish with the Revolution in the years ahead.”
A native of Viale, Argentina, Chancalay has scored over 40 goals with 20 assists across 200 professional appearances in his senior career with New England, Club Atletico Colón, Racing Club, and Al-Wasl. His resume includes 91 appearances in the Argentina Liga Profesional, where he notched nine goals and seven assists in the top division, and eight goals in the UAE Pro League with Al-Wasl while on loan during the 2022-23 season. With Racing, he excelled in the 2021 Copa Libertadores, scoring five goals in six games.
Chancalay began his career with CA Colón in 2017, breaking into the senior team in 2017 after developing for more than a decade in the club’s academy. As a youth international, he was capped three times by Argentina at the Under-20 level, including two appearances at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
