Revolution help raise more than $380,000 for Boston Scores

DL - Boston Scores Cup

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution helped Boston Scores raise more than $380,000 for under-resourced youth in Boston Public Schools through the 15th annual Scores Cup hosted at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 10. Held by Boston Scores in partnership with the Revolution, the seven-v-seven, co-ed tournament has grown to become the largest corporate charity soccer tournament in the United States.

At the 2019 Scores Cup Boston, more than 600 players representing 40 of the Boston area’s business leaders joined together at Gillette Stadium for the soccer tournament. The event is the largest single source of support for Boston Scores’ out-of-school program, as all proceeds benefit under-resourced youth in the greater Boston area through the organization’s innovative after-school programming that blends soccer, poetry, and social entrepreneurship programs. Scores partners with Boston Public School teachers, their coach-mentors, to provide urban youth in grades K-12 with after-school soccer and enrichment programs five days a week.

“The Revolution are proud to have helped grow this tremendously important tournament into the premiere charity soccer event it has become over these 15 years. Great events like Scores Cup show how powerful soccer can be as a tool to bring a community together and rally around a great cause,” said New England Revolution President and Boston Scores Board Member Brian Bilello. “Our club takes great pride in our partnership with Boston Scores, because we share a passion for using the game to help improve lives and enrich our community.”

The tournament is one major aspect of the ongoing collaboration between the Revolution and Boston Scores. For the second straight year, the Revolution hosted a soccer clinic at Gillette Stadium as part of Boston Scores’ summer camp. In addition, the "Revs Scores, Boston Scores" initiative is now in its third season, through which the Revolution donate $100 to Boston Scores for every Revolution goal scored at Gillette Stadium.

“We deeply appreciate the support of the New England Revolution in helping Boston Scores to serve increasing numbers of under-served youth each year,” said John Maconga, Executive Director of Boston Scores. “Together, we are making soccer accessible to Boston Public School students in grades K-12 and using soccer as a vehicle for academic enrichment and civic engagement.”

This year, teams representing audit, tax, and consulting firm RSM US (morning division) and international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges (afternoon division) were crowned the winners.
