Starting XI: GK Brad Knighton; D DeJuan Jones, D Andrew Farrell, D Henry Kessler, D Brandon Bye; M Maciel, M Matt Polster; LM Teal Bunbury, RM Carles Gil ©; F Gustavo Bou, F Adam Buksa
In search of a 6-0-0 start at home and eight consecutive home wins overall dating back to last season, the Revolution will deploy a starting lineup featuring three changes from Saturday’s draw at Columbus. Brad Knighton replaces Matt Turner in net, while Teal Bunbury and Adam Buksa start in place of Tajon Buchanan– and Tommy McNamara, respectively. Turner and Buchanan are unavailable while on international duty with the United States and Canada, respectively, for the Concacaf Gold Cup.
Brad Knighton will start the Revolution for the first time since March 7, 2020, when the 15th-year goalkeeper logged five saves in a 1-1 draw against Chicago Fire FC. Knighton owns a 27-25-20 career record in 75 MLS appearances.
The Revolution’s full complement of Designated Players – Gustavo Bou, Adam Buksa, and Carles Gil – starts together for the fourth time this season. The trio has factored into 17 of New England’s 20 goals scored this season.
Gustavo Bou will look to extend his career-long streak of five consecutive games with a goal, the longest scoring run by any MLS player this season. Bou’s five-game streak is already tied for the fourth longest in club history and two away from matching the club record (7) set by Wolde Harris in 2000. New England’s leading scorer with six goals this season, Bou has scored once over two career appearances against Toronto.
Carles Gil, the reigning MLS Player of the Month, owns two goals in two career games played against the Reds. Gil remains the MLS leader in assists (10) and chances created (62).
Adam Buksa is set to make his seventh start of the season and his first since May 29. Buksa is the lone Revolution player to appear in every game since the start of 2020. He leads the Revolution in shots with 33 on the year and is second behind Bou with four goals.
Teal Bunbury returns to the Starting XI for the first time since June 23. The Hamilton, Ontario native collected his 300th MLS appearance last Saturday, his 210th with the Revolution. Bunbury leads the Revolution with four goals over 22 career games played against Toronto.
Maciel logs his third straight start in central midfield. The 21-year-old Brazilian recorded two shots, one on goal, last Saturday. He has appeared in eight games with seven starts in his second professional season – his first in MLS.
The defensive backline of Andrew Farrell, Henry Kessler, DeJuan Jones, and Brandon Bye appears together in the Revolution’s Starting XI for the second consecutive game. New England has conceded just four goals, two of them from open play, in five contests at Gillette Stadium this season.
DeJuan Jones registers his 50th MLS appearance in tonight’s match. Jones owns one goal and two assists this season and ranks first on the team in interceptions (22).
Andrew Farrell makes his 249th MLS start tonight, one away from becoming the third Revolution player to make 250 starts with the club. The ninth-year defender is one of two Revolution players to play every minute this season alongside Carles Gil.
Brandon Bye has played in all 13 matches this season, starting all but one at right back.
Bench: GK Earl Edwards Jr. , D Jon Bell, D A.J. DeLaGarza, M Arnór Traustason, M Wilfrid Kaptoum, M Scott Caldwell, M Emmanuel Boateng, M Tommy McNamara, F Edward Kizza
Tommy McNamara has appeared in all 12 matches this season, starting six. The 30-year-old midfielder logged his first assist of the season in Saturday’s match at Columbus. McNamara owns one goal and two assists in eight games played against Toronto.
Wilfrid Kaptoum is available off the bench for the second straight game. Kaptoum logged a 12-minute shift off the bench Saturday, raising his total to six appearances this season.
Arnór Traustason has played in every game since joining the Revolution in April. The Icelandic midfielder owns two assists in 11 MLS appearances.
Jon Bell is available off the bench for the second consecutive game. The 23-year-old central defender has played in six contests this season, starting five.
Earl Edwards Jr. appears on New England’s MLS matchday roster for the first time since joining the Revs as a free agent in December 2020. However, he has stayed sharp over four starts with Revolution II in USL League One play.
