FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Four players have kicked off preseason camp with the New England Revolution as unsigned trialists: a trio of SuperDraft picks and a seven-year MLS veteran.
Joining Brandon Bye (1st round, 8th overall), Mark Segbers (1st round, 9th overall), and Nicolas Samayoa (4th round, 78th overall) – all selected in last week’s MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas – is Jalil Anibaba, himself a 9th overall SuperDraft selection back in 2011.
The 29-year-old defender has made more than 170 combined appearances in the regular season and playoffs with the Chicago Fire, Seattle Sounders, Sporting Kansas City, and Houston Dynamo. In his seven seasons Anibaba has featured in 29 or more games four times, including 30 appearances for Houston in 2016.
Anibaba will travel with the Revs on Friday to Bradenton, Fla., where they’ll spend 13 days and play a trio of games against the New York Red Bulls (Jan. 31), Malmo FF (Feb. 3), and FC Cincinnati (Feb. 6).
“He’s got a lot of experience in the league and he’s someone that we know well,” said General Manager Michael Burns. “We want to get him integrated with the team and see how he adjusts and adapts, both in the locker room and on the field, and then we’ll make an assessment.”
