FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The 2024 Major League Soccer season has officially come to a close for the New England Revolution, unfortunately wrapping with a 6-2 road defeat to Inter Miami CF that sealed the Supporters’ Shield winners grip on the MLS all-time regular season points record. This season did not go the way that anyone in Foxborough had hoped, but the coming offseason will give the Revs squad a chance to recuperate while head coach Caleb Porter and the front office work to prepare both their roster and themselves to come back strong in 2025.
In a sign of promise for the team, New England not only started Saturday night’s game strong, but did so on the backs of their two major international signings from the summer, winger Luca Langoni and midfielder Alhassan Yusuf. La Langosta put away the game’s first goal just two minutes into proceedings, bringing his 2024 total to three scores, while Yusuf helped set up both Langoni’s and winger Dylan Borrero’s goals, officially giving him two helpers in his debut season. Porter lifted up the two new additions after the game, and said that they were a sign of things to come for the Revolution.
“We enter, now, the offseason, immediately,” Porter said postmatch. “We’re going to need to address some things. I think we have a very good core to build from. I thought Yusuf was one of the best players today; you can see, a signing like that, what it will do. Langoni, as well, I thought was excellent. We just need a few more of these types of pieces – guys that have athleticism, guys that have talent, guys that have a good mentality.
“There’s going to be some hard discussions, for sure,” Porter continued, “and some decisions to make, but I believe we have a very good core to build from. We have a very good staff, as well. And I expect next year to be a much different year.”
Langoni, excited to have played against and scored in front of his childhood idol Lionel Messi, said after the game that he was also looking forward to what his first full season in Foxborough would bring.
"I'm very enthusiastic for next season,” he said via translator, “to compete for everything that we can accomplish and get a title for this club, which is what I would love to do."
As always, Revs fans have given their all this year to support the club they love so much, even when the results weren’t going their way. With the 2024 season now in the books for New England, preparations are beginning immediately for the Revolution to come back strong and bring the fight in 2025 – for the fans, for the badge, and for New England.
